How can you see what the actual votes are? I thought we could only see the average until after the voting period was over. Please let me know.
Thanks! |

that is an easy one.... say you have 10 votes... average of 6....10x6=60.....next vote ..#11 .. raises the "60" number to 68.. of course..that last vote was an 8..Members have update links... |

I feel that often the challenge theme is lost in evaluating the picture - Unfairly to all participants. |
FWIW (which is probably only trouble...): "In honor of the Matrix:Reloaded launch, photograph your interpretation of 'the matrix'." Not A matrix, not a womb, not anything else that doesn't somehow relate to the movies. It's all about the movies, not about a dictionary definition.

We can always blame Langdon for this comment 'We didn't say interpret the movie, we just said in honor of it. Challenges have always been open to any type of interpretation that you can come up with. Whether the voters see it or like it is a different story. :)'
but it is likely that interreptations not closely tied to the movie in this case, or the 'main theme' of the challenge will always do badly, no matter how much people bemoan the fact in the forums... |

Choose one of the following to illustrate your reaction to your score:
A. Gasp
B. Moan
C. Sigh
D. Clunk |

I think much of the fun in viewing other people's photos is to see what their interpretation is. Sometimes it's easy to see, and sometimes it's very unclear.
I've noticed that some of the photos have explained why they're interpreted in certain ways, and that makes it easier for me to judge if it fits the theme. If I can't see any correlation to the theme, I deduct one or two points, depending on how "off" I see them.
Sure, it might be a narrow-minded way of voting, but I think varied voting patterns make for a truer allround score, since not everyone sees the same photo the same way. |

I saw a couple "WOW" photos. It's amazing the creativity some of the people here have. I wouldn't have a clue how to setup or achieve some of the shots! I think my ratings for this challenge averaged a point or two higher because of the setup involved, etc.
I have a pretty good idea which one I think will win. :) There were a lot of DQ requests this time which is likely for this type of challenge. |

Personally, I was very impressed with the overall submissions, but I'm very disappointed in how poorly my photo is doing! When I entered it, I thought "now if ever one had a chance at a ribbon, this is it." But so far it's scoring lower than anything else I've ever entered! Do any of you by any chance notice scores increasing dramatically as the week goes on, as a rule? Well I can hope, can't I? :)
Sigh, I wonder if people just didn't get it. :(

Join the club carolee...almost always a "have to think" photo does not do well. Mine is this way.
I have been trying to not submit anything I do not think will get a 6+ (a personal thing and wanting to only submit when I love it), but this time I could not resist, when the idea came to me Mon night, and then I reshot a totally new subject that I knew would not score well. But hell...this is for fun, just as much as it is learning. And one of the learning parts is what the voters like, if you want to score well. Mainly comments do it for me (even though I do want a ribbon someday!!)

There is really some WOW shots, but IMO it does not look like fresh from camera shots, some of them.
Also did you see that some people commenting, like I do not see matrix or I can not see matrix in your photo ... This challenge will be, IMO, more challenge between voters and how they are limited or not to see connections between photos and matrix. Thanks the God that a lot of people did not make photos direct related to movie, like shots of covers, banners ... But there is still shots like that, like flowers ... |

Sorry, with the quote I'm not sure whether you're saying "blame Langdon" for saying that and confusing things, or if you're saying the challenge isn't strongly tied to the movie (or at least it's premise or mythology). I assume the first...
Phrasing of the challenge descriptions seems to often be a bone of contention. I don't want to suggest that we need 15 paragraphs of description detailing what does and doesn't meet the challenge, but I wonder if a little more care in wording the descriptions might help the overall mood a little around here! I mean "the matrix" pretty strongly implies the movie or it's concepts. A little more forethought in what you guys intend the challenge to be, and a few extra words, or even an extra sentence or two, might help keep folks a little more civil. Or maybe that's just pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking... :-(
English is the hardest part....
