13 comments on this image, 8 mention lighting, 4 like the lighting, 4 say it's too dark.
Nope - It's not mine (belongs to Xilebo), I was just going thru looking at some of the results and feedback and the comments reminded me of some monitor calibration threads a while back.
What do you think? ;^)

I don't think it's too dark. The subject is just in the wrong place. If she were lying down on the pillow that fully lit it might work better or if you had some way of adding light to here face in the current position I think it would be improved immensly.

Well.. what i know for sure is that people dont really pay attention to their color caliberate options and setting.
for me color/bightness/contrast is very important and i want my prints will be exactly as i see them and how they appear on my screen..
i found this product and im quiet interested.. its match the color of your screen to prints and caliberate to actual pictur's colors..

and see the spider product..
otherwise.. ADOBE have a software for that.. i will look into it and let you know how it works.. im downloading now..

My computer is in my studio/gallery under a skylight in a room with a wall of windows to my right. I have learned not to do any serious photo editing or voting between (right now) 11 AM and, say, 4 PM (it changes a lot in winter) because the much higher level of ambient light completely changes the way I see the images.
I suspect a LOT of these "calibration" issues are in reality ambient light issues. I know that back in my early days in here I wrongly scored down any number of images that, when I viewed them at midnight when the challenge closed, looked just fine after all...
I do ALL my voting at night now, for consistency.

yeah, ambient light is a killer. Many of the color calibration hardware systems have a diffuser you can attach to the sensor in order to measure and calibrate based on your ambient light conditions.
we are about to rebuild the digital media [color correcting, asset management] section of our office specifically so that we can get our monitors out of the current lighting situations. For now I just use a hood.

Yeah it looks very dark to me. I got a comment about one of my pictures having a yellow hue - it dosn't have one at all on my screen at home but if I look on my monitor at work it has. I tend to check things on as many monitors as I can now - not that that helps much at times

Yeah, I have a hood, came with my Electron Blue monitor; plus the monitor is made of dark plastic, which helps a lot; but even so...

I just turn my back on the forums for a day and people are talking about my pics???
Ok, here's the truth: The model showing in the photo agreed to pose for challenge crazy mom, albeit reluctantly. The light through the window was absolutely beautiful in the late afternoon sun. I told darling daughter let's shoot a few NOW but she had to brush hair, put on make-up, change top twice argggggghhhh the light is going Tamara! Hurry up! It was too dark :(
