Got a sigma 105mm macro with the 50mm 1.8 and cannot get anything in focus. Whats up with that! Thought it would be a snap...whats the secret to get the 2 lenses to focus. Oh ya I am not trying to use auto focus either... |

so how does it work? can you use a 50mm with a 28-85 lens? or does both lenses have to be fixed?

im sure it would work with a zoom lens, you just haev to be careful about not changing the focal length of your zoom while you hold your 50 against it. this would only apply to zooms that have an extending front element

I'm not an expert at this. 40 years ago I had a coupler for my nikon, mounted a 55mm macro and a 105 together. Plenty of people here have more experience.

I am personally really curious about this. I am currently both waiting for funds to accumulate in my pocket and trying to compile a dream list of lenses that balance function with versatility.
I would consider a 100mm macro + a 50mm 1.8 a powerful tool, But for $139 at B+H, I noticed there is also a Sigma 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 Super Macro lens which some people on this site have used to great effect...
I was wondering if there were any good places to read up on using the 50mm trick with the 100mm and or the 70-300mm? Particularly information on resulting sharpness, working distance and ease of use...
I seem to recall that the Canon 100mm is internally focused, but the 70-300, I'm pretty sure isn't.
I already googled it, but found the information disappointing and vague. I have heard that the 100 + 50 is very commonly used. There must be info out there. |

See the other thread about my recent shots with the coupler and a regular 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm 1.8.
