Great shot. How long was the exposure?

Took this one tonight with my crapy 1600mm manual focus lens.

Full moon is actually my least favorite time to photograph the moon. The interim phases provide lots of shadow-relief to make surface features stand out. Here are a few samples:

These are all shot with my Nikon CP4500 using eyepiece projection through my Celestron C8. Focusing is EXTREMELY challenging with this method. It's easy to see that these aren't perfect. I'm still trying!

uhm...I just tried, and I'm rather dissapointed with the results. I mean, my photos of the moon absolutely suck.

I shot at just about every aperture...

First, I tried using the sunny rule or whatever, so I shot ISO 200, 1/200, f/16, then I tried 4/11 -- then I bumped shutter to 1/400 tried f/11, f/8, f/6.3, etc..etc...

I give up...Maybe the moon looks different from all places in the world or something, but it's like I didn't shoot the same moon as you all did.

David (deapee), your shutter speed it the key point here and you should use a tripod.

your shutter speed needs to be between 1/80 sec and 1/200 (depending on apeture)

I mostly shoot the moon at ISO 200 just so I can get the shutter speed i want. a camera's metering will not properly meter the moon and mess up your shutter speed.

try ISO 200, f8 with a shutter speed of 1/100 as a starting point and adjust fstop or shutter speed to your liking and use a tripod and self timer to avoid camera shake

One from tonight... manual focus is hard...

Here's one from tonight shot off my deck when the clouds parted, a little more "environment" than the rest of these:

(70-200mm f/4L, ISO 800, 200mm zoom, 15 seconds @ f/11, manual focus, uncropped except for aspect ratio)

This one just for laughs, a few minutes later, LIT by the moon in my living room LOL.

(also at 200mm, f/11, 30 seconds)

I'm enjoying actually having a cable release :-)

Robt.
