I just got my Kodak 7590. I also have photoshop 3.0 I entered the Branch challenge and did not do well at all. Everyone told me to make the pic bigger. I changed the size in photoshop so it was only 1.5M. Should I take my pics with a lower MP so they are smaller size? or is there something i'm doin wrong. Please help

A good place to start would be here.
It's a great site tutorial.

You will probably find that the change in size suggested was the dimensions of the photo rather than the size in megabytes. The photo looks good but needs an increase up to 640 by 480 pixel size to really show its worth
DPC entries are restricted to no more than that size with a memory size no greater than 150kbytes
I dont know about the version of Photoshop you have , but later versions have a "save for web " option which does allow you to get the photo into a suitable resolution size for entry. Make sure tho that your original phot is in a high quality mode, as for quality's sake it is better to reduce the photo than to try enlargening it |

If you right click this picture, and go to properties, you will notice that your picture is only 276x184 pixels, and file size of 23.935 KB. As per challenge rules, you can submit an image of dimensions upto 640pixels (Larger dimension), and file size 150 KB. Follow these easy steps:
Open the image in Photoshop.
Image>Image Size, Large Dimn. 640 pixels.
Image>Save for web, Optimise to file size, 150KB.
Good Luck.

I might be going about ti the wrong way, but I adjust the dimensions and file size in the save for web dialogue. Should I avoid this?

Thats a good way of doing it unless you have a specific resizing program for resizing it. I usually do the resizing that way, just keep the file memory resizing as close as possible to the 150k maximum as it will give you the best quality |

I use Image>Image size to get the 640 pixels, then use Save for Web to get the compression to the 150kb file size limit. I just like the ability to use different resizing algorithms in Image size.

I believe you might have Photoshop Elements 3.0 instead of Photoshop but if you follow the tutorial mentioned above you should not have any problems with sizing. |

I had the same problem in the construction challenge, I saw the tutorial after, helped a great deal. I also had a tip from a friend to apply a sharpening filter after re sizing if you don't like the result..it helps in most cases.. |
