I'm getting a Canon Rebel XT, so I was wondering if it should be black or silver. Silver seems to look new to me but then again black looks more proffesional....any opinions??

| Silver would probably look too flashy, I'd prefer black, unless you want to stick out in a crowd? |

| A black case will absorb heat, a silver case should reflect it. |

Everyone will say black but I prefer the silver (not only because I have it, there wasn't a choice when I got mine).

Since I'm getting this as well, should I get black...would silver "clash" with it?

Black bodies are less of a problem whenever reflection is an issue. You can get specular highlights thrown around by silver bodies, and they can show up in the most unexpected reflections (such as water drops). This is basically why professional bodies are always black. If soaking up heat is a problem, a silver body won't help for long anyway. We used one of those "space blankets" draped over the camera when we left it set up for any length of time in direct sunlight. Those are very effective in retarding heat gain. But that was for a view camera, I can't imagine using one on the dSLR.

| I had a silver 300D, and replaced it with a black 350D... no particular reason. Black looks a little more pro, but who really cares? You're taking pictures WITH the camera, not OF the camera. |

My 350D is 1 week old and it's black. Looks better for me!

| I'd go with the black. I'm looking at getting a battery grip also and it just seems to look weird on my silver camera. |

I agree to some extent but then it also depends that what looks better aesthetically. You often go looking for matching stuff while buying things for your house... things that look aesthetically better, don't you? Also when the extended battery grip (BG) is added to the camera, the silver body looks very odd in between. On the other hand black goes much better with most lenses and the grip.
I waited for the black to be available and bought it only then. Infact I was going to recommend that on this site we must add the black model picture also.
I have the black one and (to me atleast) it looks visually much better than the silver. Also if I am not wrong with the silver kit the 18-55 lens is not the DG version but with black body and grip you get the DG version.

If you plan on doing any wildlife shots(deer and such) i recommend getting the black body. silver is seen very quickly by wild animals.

Looks better and doesn't have the big red Rebel insignia.
If you are going to be using it a lot, the silver will show the wear more too, and may be like many silver bodies, is black underneath the silver, which will show through in time.

Judicious application/removal of some really sticky tape may allow you to achieve a zebra-striped look ... : )
or ...
The black ones eventually turn silver as the layers of duck tape accumulate ... : ) |

However, a black case will also dissipate heat to the environment better than a silver one.

honestly, there are some very resonable rationalizations for both, but in reality it is just what you think looks cooler. If you are really worried about reflections, you are kidding yourself. I got silver because silver cameras are bad-asser.

| That was what I wondered about, as the BG is one option I will be adding soon. A black BG and silver body would look odd IMO. |
