Anybody have photos of what it's looking like up there? Is it at peak yet?

I just did maps.google.com

then type:

woodstock, ny to ithaca, ny

It comes out different than when you do it on Mapquest. My wife says mapquest is better, but I like the google interface better :)

We did want the scenic route! Just for comparison, are there some suggestions for a Saturday "agenda", if we got there a day early?

Well, if anyone was interested, it would be cool to meet you guys in Woodstock and shoot around the reservoirs on the way out. I could spend tomorrow night at my parents house and meet up in the morning on Saturday. Alternatively I'm sure we could come up with things to do around Ithaca/Cortland if you wanted to do that.

ButterflySis, KaDi, and I just did that a couple of weeks ago. It's a great place to shoot. Here's one of mine from that outing:

I reviewed the proposed route across--it certainly is a scenic one.
If you get tired of the hills by the time you get to Walton (which makes a nice stopping place for lunch, by the way) you can always come down route 10 to Deposit and pick up Route 17 to 81 north. (About 1.5 hrs to Cortland from Deposit.. but you'll get another reservoir in.)
Alternatively, if you want to extend your picturesque views from Whitney Point (end of 206) you can take route 11 north to Cortland--it parallels Route 81.

The valley opens up around Phonecia--there are pull-offs.
Watch for pull-offs around the reservoirs--and watch out for hunters. ;-)
There's lots and lots to do in Ithaca if you arrive a full-day early. Visit Cornell Plantations. Hang out at the downtown commons and watch all the interesting people (nice shops down there, too, with exquisite handmade items). Drive up 89 along the west side of the lake. Not much to do in Cortland--but I'll think on it. I sent my parents a message and we'll see what they say about sunset spots in that area.

Dangit! My sense of humor is out being serviced. Will have to make do with sense of taste and sense of imminent duck attack. :-(

Can I lug your little Gitzo, please?

(Neufer, cut it out! You know I didn't mean that to sound the way you took it!)

Okay, keep talking and I'm going to be afraid to meet all of you!

Actually my daughter Ellie asked if she could come along, I got the back up camera today, seems okay, got a battery, it took pictures but I still don't have a card for it and right now, no way to transfer the shots until the base comes in that I ordered.

I told Ellie that this was me time, just me and that I loved her dearly and I know she would probably be just fine but the idea was to have ME time! She's a good kid, she understood. Sides, can't have her coming along and taking better shots than me, LOL!

Haven't packed a thing, what do I need? Camera, cards, tripod, batteries, lunch

Yeah we had 3 kids who wanted to tag along - 12, 9, and 5 all of whom have cameras. BUT the 15th is our last wedding of the season and to be honest, I want the 16th as one of the first "fun shooting" days I've had in awhile to just be us, do our thing, and meet all of you!

Can't wait - bring baggies for cameras! hehe
