I know my words don't mean much in the long run, but I lost my mother eight years ago. I think that if I would have talked about it then, I wouldn't feel so bad about it now. So by talking about it this openly with a community your wife was a part of, I think you are stronger than I was, and that you are doing a favour towards yourself and your wife.
Here's a cyber *hug* for you, in lack of a physical one.

heh. I guess I didn't want to be the first to say that. I've been tearing up since I first read this an hour ago.
Could one of the SC's put up an honorable mention or something? Maybe a pink ribbon? |

Diane and I met at a low point in both our lives, both from failed young marriages.
She was sitting on a bar stool at my local Karioki bar, in the most outrageous clothes imaginable, she was a mature student at university, and had arranged to meet fellow students at the bar.
She waited hours for someone to turn up, as it turned out, she had been waiting for me.
That was 14 years ago, we were inseparable ever since.
She inspired, befriended and helped all she came across, the count at the funeral was over 90 people, we have only been in New Zealand for 14 months, typical of how she affected everyone she met.
Her father died of cancer in 98, her brother in 99, and her mother in 2001, we participated in a modern greek tragedy, no one should have to bear such misfortune.
She chose the music for her funeral.
1 Mr Blue sky, ELO.
2 Evergreen, Streisand. (Diane could move me to tears singing this).
3 Always look on the bright side, Eric Idle, (monty Python)
Even living with it for so long, taking each day or hour at a time, the thought of failure gets pushed so far away, that even on her last day,It never once crossed my mind that she would go.
I still can't believe she isn't going to be walking in the door.

Why did I feel such personal, overwhelming sadness as I read this thread?? I did not know her. I was familiar with her username on DPC, but I don't remember directly interacting with her. She was 43 years young, my wife's age. She was one of us and after reading Chris' words, I see that she was much more than most of us. I'm left thinking that if I am feeling this amount of sadness, I can't imagine - and couldn't bear to - how much grief Chris and the family are going through.
Strange as it sounds, Chris, the enormity of your loss is felt across the globe. Tears and prayers are all I have to offer. God bless.

Amazing how music affects the soul.
As I sat here at home, reading the rest of the replies, Enya's Shepard Moons was playing and set the stage to have this tragic loss really hit deep. Some moments in our lives take up permanent residence.
This is one.

My tears are falling, for you, for Ryan, for all who knew and loved Diane, and for Diane that she will miss so much in the future that she should have enjoyed.
Life is not fair but weren't you lucky to have met her, loved her, been loved by her and shared so much together?
Hugs from across the world.
