| Does anyone have any idea where I can get a whole lot of mismatched buttons? Do art stores sell bags of misc buttons? |

You could also check educational supply places -- Isaac's kindergarten teacher just did a project with a lot of assorted buttons (check with a local school/daycare center). I would also check with fabric supply and second-hand stores for buttons which have fallen off cards or clothing.

Most of the GoodWill stores, or thrift stores will have bags or boxes of buttons. Also fabric stores, garage sales.

I've bought jars and jars of buttons at yard sales, flea markets, and church rummage sales. They have become more collectible so the prices are going up. Ohhh yeah...eBay
