I spose the feedback I'm getting on this one is so bad that I am getting discouraged.
Is there a way to remove it now that voting has started on it?
10/23/2005 09:53:22 PM · #2
Nope. You're pretty much stuck. Just chalk it up as a learning experience.
10/23/2005 09:53:43 PM · #3
I think only to self DQ but you have to have a legit reason....Just hang in there...maybe you'll get the brown!
10/23/2005 09:53:52 PM · #4
I believe you can dq yourself, that's about it. I would recommend against that.

Edit
Woah - that was a fast three out the chute, and I took last.

Anyway Shannon, I would still recommend not dq-ing yourself. It is easy for others to say "Yeah, get knocked around, you'll get something out of it", but it is true.

Which challenge?
10/23/2005 09:58:54 PM · #7
Yes, you can self-dq yourself, but if you have another dq in the next 25 entries, you will be subject to a suspension.

Go to the voting pages, and then go to the last page where you will find your entry. Click on it, and there will be a link for validation. Follow it, and the instructions that pop up, if you wish to take a self-dq. But, please consider carefully, 'cause we really don't want you to get suspended if something odd happens in the next 25 entries.

What karma said is why I would recommend against.

I finished voting reflections earlier today, I don't remember any that were bad to the point of someone wanting to yank it.

Edit to say hope I wasn't one of the discouraging commenters, I (try to) phrase everything as positive as possible.

Second edit to say hate isn't my style.

well, so far - my score is in the low 3's
ThAt doesn't bother me - it's the comments. Some are downright hateful!

Really, if I thought it was THAT bad of a picture - I wouldn't have entered it!

If you have some that violate the TOS, you should alert the SC.

things like "I don't know what this is....blah/blah....I'm giving you a low score"

nothing "illegal" - just discouraging

Well, imo, discouraging can be a huge let down, just don't let it pull you down.

it's one thing to fail to connect with the voters with an image you like. if you really like your shot and no one does, screw it, leave it in. but, if it's an image you don't like, and you know you shouldn't have entered it, then take your mulligan.

in other words, don't pull it because of the score, pull it because of how you feel about it. there's absolutely nothing to be gained by leaving yourself an ugly reminder of how you can make a mistake. just don't make a habit of it...

I would agree with most of that: if *you* like it keep it in. The person you should be most interested in pleasing should be yourself anyway.

I pulled my reflection because I couldn't get quite what I wanted with basic editing. I should have kept it in and I think it would have done well, but now I'll never know. At least you now have feedback and you can use that to your advantage however you see fit.

For me I would rather someone tell me why they don't like something in my photos, that way I can see (or at least try to see) something from their perspective.

Reflections is the first challenge I've entered here. I'm not doing so great, with few "why it isn't so great" comments but I'm going to keep plugging away and working on my skills by watching who does win and what people like. Letting voters get me down won't help my skills :) I also can see why comments are so hard to do here, there are SO MANY entries to comment on! I have a full time job, do photography a little more than part time, a family and all that stuff. I can squeeze in voting time, but comments??? Oh My!

JP - would love to see what you shot, why not post it. You could still get feedback that way.

It's Rorshach Lake in my portfolio and on my profile page. I didn't want to make a "What do you think of my didn't enter the challenge entry photo" thread while voting was going on, figured I'd just let people see it if they cruised on through my profile. I would appreciate any feedback though :)

Sorry for the highjack Shannon - back to you!
