Nice! Pricey, but worth it, huh.

I am also an early-shopping, get-myself-something-good-this-year kinda guy. I should be getting this in a day or two and this in a week or so.

last christmas Santa gave me these

now he came early and gave me the 5D and a phototrip to Paris, London and a short trip to Stonehenge....

I don't think I'll get any parcels to open on Cristmas.. unless the 24-70L gets here in time :)

lucky you.
Santa only gave me dust bunnies in my stocking, boo hoo. :(
The 10-22 is a remarkable lens. Just goto photozone.de and look at the review and the MTF charts, if you already haven't. I personally have used it and know two photogs who have and use it. Probably the best of the ultrawide zooms for the Canon cropped sensor.

i'm excited and can't wait to get it ;)

here's the question, i want a CPL for this one as well but it's too damn expensive for such a thin glass. Does anyone have experience with Cokin filters for the P-series? I have Cokin holders, etc. and figured the rotating CPL that they have for the P-series would be decent at only $38 for the glass ;)

Any advice?

According to Bob Atkins review. With a regular CPL, he saw vingetting at 10mm but it was gone by 11mm. I've the same experience with my Tokina 12-24. With a regular CPL, it vingettes at 12mm but is gone by 13mm.

One option is to consider a cheap CPL on eBay. I think there is a seller named American Eagle Filters out of FL that sells US made CPL for about $25 or so. You can avoid vingetting by using upto 11mm but not 10mm and see if you like that. Thin CPL's are very expensive and over $100 so they are a significant investment in my mind.
Good luck

Personally, I'm iffy on using a cpl at all on the 10-22mm. The angle of view is so wide that the cpl just exaggerates the variation in brightness across the sky, at least when down at the wide end and to an extent allt he way through the range. However, the cpl can be useful for non-sky pictures. Typically with those you won't have a problem zooming in a tad, so I'd go with the less expensive alternative, at least until you decide you really NEED a polarizer for this lens.

That's a good point. The angle of view is very wide at 10mm so that the polarization is only effective for only a part of the shot. I see it all the time in mine, but I don't mind it for me. It's a very personal choice.

Do I need a lens hood as well? It doesn't come with it right?

Yeah, it's an "extra". I have it and it is very useful sometimes. However, the lens is remarkably flare-free, so you can get by without it. I usually don't mount it, nor even carry it reversed on the lens like I do my other hoods, because it increases the diameter of the lens dramatically and it won't fit in its compartment in my bag with the hood on. So I sleeve the hood in vertically on the side, and take it out as needed.

Note relative freedom from flare: the sun is IN these pictures.

Thanks Robert ;) I can't wait. Is the UPS man here yet? I even got the three day delivery even though it was $8 more :D

Once I get it, I can strike out that goal of mine on my profile page ;)
