Mavrik,
I agree this is a wonderful idea. I am going to keep my eye on this post to see if there is anything I can contribute.
For my wish list I guess the following:
1. a dSLR camera...not picky, just want to upgrade from my Fuji.
2. in lieu of a dSLR, a wide angle and/or telephoto and/or macro lens for my current Fuji.
3. Trip to Africa to accomplish my dream of a wildlife safari for photographic purposes (and then of course to be noticed by NG for my work! LOL)
4. any plug ins for PS7
5. my stock photography shots to start selling
5. Amazon gift certificates to fulfil my 2nd passion for books.
6. Along the lines of what Kavey posted - this is my favorite non-profit sanctuary. They are doing good work here and would love for everyone to at the least check out their website and read about them:
Big Cat Rescue

I'm reading through the website right now! I'm also considering looking through my photos and seeing if there's any I can donate to their gallery (they sell these to raise funds). Remind me about this in a week or two?

I have an old HP Photosmart 318 that I never use... The screen is all scratched up, and it only has two features (point, and--you guessed it--shoot!) but last I checked it worked just fine... It may be lacking a little on the 'nice' part, but if you want it... |

Kavey...if you look through their site, they are also hosting a photo contest right now. Photos have to be received by 12/31/05. There is a $5 charge for each submission but it all goes right to the care of the cats. I have some photos I am going to enter. Grand prize (know this would be difficult for some) is a overnight stay in one of their cabins and a "behind the scenes photo shoot" where they actually take you into some of the enclosures to get pics of the cats without fences in the way! If anyone here were to enter and win, I can help in securing airfare to Tampa - my day job is a corporate travel agent.

I did see, but decided not to enter. Wish I'd known about this place a few weeks back though - I was in Florida just a few weeks back! I'll definitely see if I can find an image to contribute though - I should have some that are not the ones I already have on sale elsewhere...

She was given a new HPM305 last Christmas, but the batteries (AA) die before she even gets through one event. The photos aren't bad, though it almost can't be used because it eats the batteries worse than any camera I've ever seen. Since it's also an HP, I wonder if the 318 does the same thing? Not to sound ungrateful, as I certainly appreciate the offer. Do you know how bad it is on batteries? Thanks :) |

Sounds like a nimh charger and battery set would solve the problem as well. (I don't have a spare, but if someone does...)

We tried the rechargable batteries, and if we have two sets...one for the camera and one extra set - she can do maybe one event. It's just terrible, and I mean awful, that they get used up so fast. It's just frustrating for her and I'd like to find something that gets more reasonable life so that it's not a concern for her.
I've used her camera myself, using all the tricks I know to help battery life, but it just dies after about 30 nonflash shots, and about 20 flash shots. If we use the screen or zoom at all, you can cut down on those numbers. |

We had an old Concord Eye-Q that did this too - it ATE batteries, even good 2100 mAh rechargeables. :(
Hopefully the other one is better? :)

Mav, What a GREAT idea! I really hope we can contribute to one or more lists. I'd love to see things other than photography stuff too... |

On regular alkalines the 318 is terrible, but I remember it being okay on NiMHs. Certainly better than what you are describing, though my idea of what constitutes 'a lot of pictures' has changed rather significantly since I last used the 318! |

Just a note - if you read the list early on, it's now in the original post and has been updated with lots more people's lists. If you could, take a moment to read through and see what people want. :)
Thanks!
Matt

This is a great idea Mav, I hope the good karma pays you a visit!
My list:
A larger tripod suitable for an SLR (because I've had too many frights and scares with my SLR almost falling to the gound on my current pod!!!)

Thanks so much for the offer! I think I will pass and see if someone else would like to use your camera. She is really becoming interested in photography, and I am concerned about battery life. It may seem like a minor thing, but I guess I'm spoiled by the Sony's I've had :)
Thanks anyway! |

Me too. A similar wish is the one thing I really do wish I could have. If ever I find a genie in a lamp... Wishing her well, and you also. |

Mine isn't a wish really but a trade of time and energy in exchange for use of studio space.
Amanda and I have an awesome old garage we need to convert into studio space. It will require time and energy to make it useable space but once it is -- it will be very nice. We'd be willing to exchange using the space for manpower from anyone willing to help out.

I'd really like a Canon Angle Finder C and Gary Fong's Lightsphere PJ.
