I know we have been over this ground so often we've probably worn a rut in it, but I had a thought or two whilst writing one of my occasional pieces just now.

Many times, when faced with an image for critique, I have absolutely no idea what kind of thing the submittee is actually asking for: one has to guess from an assessment of their portfolio, previous entries, and apparent level of expertise experience and aspiration.

I suggest we have a sub-categorisation of the requests for 'A Critique'. Along the lines of a drop-down box with the following options/categories for critique:

1. Score. Why didn't it do better/worse?
2. Technical competence.
3. It's fittingness for this challenge.
4. The meaning of my photograph.

And possibly some others that I haven't thought of yet. This would also make it less easy than just ticking a box to get a critique, which would also reduce the numbers somewhat.

Also, I want to propose that people shouldn't be able to request critiques for ever single shot they enter - perhaps two per month, or even one might give us a chance of getting through them all one day.

I think that's one of the most sensible ideas yet for relieving the backlog of Critique Club. Limit them to one per month. If after a while, if things get better, it could be changed to two per month, or more.

An in depth analysis from one of our Critique Club volunteers should not be a routime part of submitting every entry. It should be reserved for an entry that is unusal, or in some way special.
