I would loved to have joined you for this - I am still very inexperienced with my SLR and would loved to have had the opportunity to discuss and learn all things photographic - but unfortunately my wife is about to drop our first at any moment, with next Friday being the last allowed date. (Do you think she'd miss me on the Saturday? Mmm, perhaps!)

I did have another suggestion - what about photography from on the river - gives quite a good view on big ben and the eye as well as a lower perspective on the bridges - I'm sure there are still boats out to the thames barrier too - and then there are the warehouses, the dome, ... you get the picture (but only if you're quick!)

Enjoy yourselves.

Given that the forecast for Sat is showery, I suggest we go somewhere that's partly indoors, so that we can shelter if it starts getting wet! Might be worth wandering around the museums in the South Kensington area (Science Museum, Natural History Museum, and the V&A), since theyre all free & allow cameras.

Manic,

I agree with you, the weather report according to metcheck says that we will have about 2.2mm of rain at dinner time, with 100% cloud coverage.

Just need somewhere to meet you all in the morning.

Good choices regardless of the weather.

alionic should definatly be there - he owes me a lense.

where are we going to meet? is there an early morning cafe or the like that would be a good base point?

Some of you might enjoy the exhibit in the Natural History Museum of winners and finalists for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. There is an entrance fee of £6 for this room, btw.

Looks like alionic will not be coming (see thread Refused Exit from Japan)

Looks like it will just be 3 or 4 maybe sqeazing it to 5 of us.

if it does rain too much we might see the inside of a few bars maybe.

Not going to get my new lense yet then - not to worry.

OK, since no-one else is, I suggest we meet up somewhere near the South Ken tube station, so that we don't have to walk very far. 11am would be a good time for me - I'm not an early morning person ;o) As for where exactly, I'm not sure...
02/16/2006 12:34:44 PM · #68
mmmmmmm is there an early bird somewhere as i will be at st pancras for about 8:30am.

2 and a half hours to kill is a fair old time.

i suppose a south kensington is on the opposite side of london i could take a slow walk from st pancras over there.
02/16/2006 01:10:21 PM · #69
Still not sure if I will make it (depends on work mostly).

If I do, I can do 11am but not 8:30am given how knackered I am!

I don't know the area re: bars etc. Ideally a bar that is open and relaxed and not too busy at 11am on a Sunday. Anyone else know of one?
02/16/2006 01:16:00 PM · #70
I've managed to dig up La Brasserie, which is open on Sat mornings (not been there before tho), so we could just hang out at the bar there until everyone arrives...
02/16/2006 01:39:30 PM · #71
Or there's always the Zetland Arms (again, not been, but reviews make it seem ok), if we'd prefer more of a pub that a food place...

manic, that looks a nice bar.

I will meet you at 11am at either one dont mind - the french one is a bit pricey though
