I just submitted mine. It took me a while to do but I'm pleased with it. I think the person I chose will get a big kick out of it. Hopefully they will anyway. :)

Can we do your old username?

Just got my entry in and I like it. Probably gonna be lots of submissions for this name though which has me re-thinking the whole thing. Either way as it stands now I have at least a top 20. :)

I'm a little confused as to why a well known "user name" would score better. I selected two names that I thought I could try and never looked at the profile of the photographer. I'm fairly new here. I'm not doing real well but I have been steadily improving. I understood the challenge to be to select a username and take a photograph that represented that name - not the user or their style of photography. As someone else in this forum mentioned I felt it was similar to the pun challenge but more limiting. After I read this forum I looked at the profile of the name I selected. The person just joined in November and has not as yet submitted any photos. Is there any room for somebody new? Or is there a "good old boy" system at DPC?

don't be confused some people just enjoy kissing ass and some think they'll score better for a well known users. That would be like suggesting if we choose a S/C member we will win. Challenges are always or at least should be based on skills blah, blah, blah. You had the right idea before reading this post despite what may have confused you.

This is not about the challenge but is about my username. I have had several confusing my name BrenB with BradP. My username is now Brenb. Now at first glance it won't look the same. :)

Yea I could see how people could get screwed up looking at the 2 different names. :S

I think the relevant factor is name recognition, especially for the 20-30 seconds someone will be looking at an entry. Most won't go perusing the list of members to see how well it fits.

Now if you could do name recognition in the style of the photographer you're honoring - that's a winner, imho.

I'll now go back, read the thread, and see what others have said...

Done. ;o) My user is not well known at all, but the photo fits to a "T".

Would be interesting to see! Although, I don't think too many people know who I am. *runs away*

Napalm Nymph....

I see a huge diesel/kerosine explosive inferno with a hot almost nekkid chick in front of it with an ignition switch and an evil grin.

- where to get hot chick, willing to get almost nekkid in this cold
- were to create huge inferno?

I guess someone was practicing for this challenge in England a week ago.

This made me chuckle. And then I felt bad. :/

Oh, and here's a tip: lots of people will do very silly things if you PAY them. ;)

Well, I'm in. The username is not a popular one. I went looking through the names and my idea hit me. So I went out got what I wanted. If it gets voted down because it is not a member of the "In Crowd" then I'll be disappointed. It's an actual member name. All I'm asking is vote on the pictures, not how popular the name is.

I hear ya. I was going to pick one that was a member since 2003, but has absolutely no history. :( Seeing how a few here believe that it should be someone who uses the site more frequently, well, hey, I am interested in the votes, so I switched it to someone more user friendly. Not sure my original idea would have worked anyway, but I know my votes won't be based on history of the user or not. Just so you know, you don't have to worry about my vote on that basis.

Is it too late to have my next door neighbor open an account as
"full_on_genital_assault?

So here's my best pitch for mine -- if you use it I will vote you a 10 -- yes that's a firm commitment :)

I uploaded mine. Maybe it will get a good laugh.

I pretty much did the same thing. I found cool names on the list and went looking for photos that would creatively convey that name without a thought to whether or not they were active or recognizable. Now I have a couple of great pictures (at least I think they are), but then after looking at their profile. . ooops. . .they aren't active, but they are on the list. Don't you think that if you have a name, and the picture just shouts that name at you, and is well done and cool looking, it will get rated well, even if the name on the list isn't active? Please say yes???? I do have a couple that fit active, well-known names, but my favorite is the inactive one.

i got an idea in my head as soon as I saw the challenge.

it's not a user I've chatted with, but they are active.

The Challenge description doesn't say that the Username must be anything other than a Username. Active, inactive, whatever. If it's on the list, it's eligible according to the description.

Folks, I don't post in the forums much, so few probably recognise my name, but it's gotta be the easiest one to incorporate for this challenge.
12/24/2005 09:23:01 AM · #224
I just changed my entry. Went photo shooting yesterday and found the perfect pic for the name. The profile is active, but I don't see them posting much. Odd, but I think this entry is far more technically better and more "in your face" to the name.

I hope to ribbon on this one! BUT as usual it will depend on personal preference in voting for the most part. :)

Props to the DP Club, this is going to be a super sweet challenge. I can't wait, I haven't completely decided yet who I am using, but I look forward to the challenge.

I think sacredspirit, sort of has a ring, if its done I hope it matches the elegence in which I intended it. At any rate I think it would be sort of cheesey to do your own name, so I'll have to pick on somebody.
