I looked through the recent posts and I did not find any posts on this subject, and I did not find a search option in the forum so I could not confirm if this topic had been posted before.
I just thought I would share a couple programs I found recently that allow you to share your photos on your website. They are more for when you do not have access to use java, CGI or perl scripts and etc. (Like on my Comcast site).
The first one allows you to create a web album and show all of your cameras Exif jpg information.
It is called "Photo Studio" by Stuffware.
The URL is: //www.stuffware.co.uk/
I have found a couple bugs in it, but it does work nice. If you want to redo and existing web album and the directory already exists. On my XP machine I found it ran into some user rights problems. It would delete all the existing files and then give you an error. So all work was lost. It does not give you a lot of creativity options for the web pages but like I say it does fairly nice.
The second program is called "Album Generator Viewer".
The URL is: //www.xydot.com/
It is nice. It has a lot more web creativity but does not allow the posting of all the Exif jpg information for a camera geek.
Does anyone have any other nice programs that allow the posting of the Exif jpg information? That does not cost an arm and a leg?
Respectfully;
Robin

Are you looking for a windows program that generates album locally, or a web-based one? I have been using Gallery which does everything you mention, and it is free. (Well, it is "honour-ware") I like it very much.

I agree Gallery rocks. But it truly is 'freeware', and distributed under the GNU Public License, which means you get the full source code and can modify it to your hearts content. You can even make money with it (but if you use it commercially, and make changes, you are obligated to make the source code to your changes available). So you don't have to feel obligated to donate unless you want to. (I did, to show my appreciation to the authors.)

BreezeBrowser generates "hard-coded" galleries with (optional) EXIF data. (By hard-coded, meaning the hosting site doesn't need to have PHP, etc. like Gallery does.)

Greymatter is more geared towards blogging but some people have started using it as the basis for a gallery system with commenting. It's free, but does require some coding to get templates exactly how you want them. It also helps that the guy behind the software is an amazing photographer and uses the code to run his website too.

Yup breezebrowser is great, and also lets you really customise the templates as much as you want.
This site is an example of some pages that I autogenerated using templates I wrote and breezebrowser. Some links don't work for large versions, as it is mainly done for a CD index.
I've used breeze a few times to generate proof CDs to allow people to pick prints and then automail me with the particular ones they want and stuff like that too - very powerful, pretty cheap and a great thumbnail/ previewer, biased towards Canon cameras (though works with others)

Try JALBUM - freeware that beats any commercial and shareware out there. There is a whole community around it developing styles, skins, etc. Search Google for jalbum and you'll get it all.

Wow. He asked the question 7/2003, and the first response was 3/2004! LOL.
Anyway, my 2 cents: I like an open source script photoframe:
//photoframe.sourceforge.net/
If you use the script as is, all you have to do is customize a text file, dump the shots in a folder, and it takes care of the rest. If you later decide to delete a shot, you don't have to start over. Kind of like some of the gallerys which also support uploads, but this one's more directed at a single source of photos (you) and allows you to easily keep the album on several servers (or move it between servers) easily without recreating it. For example, I set up on my local intranet server here and then I FTP the folders to my internet server.
More flexibility and even customizable for the non-technically challenged.
Also it allows commenting like some of the other script galleries.

I'll add a second recommendation for JAlbum. I tried out a bunch of web photo album progs a few months ago, and JAlbum was by far the best. It's template driven, with an immense amount of flexability. And like Dibutil said, there are lots of templates available and being shared. Check out that link, look at the Samples page, then from there link to the Skins Repository. Lots of cool ideas. I tried BreezeBrowser, and while it's got some OK basic templates, JAlbum blows it a way if your looking for a really slick design. |
