...that's what I was hoping for. I left my take in photographers comments. Any ideas on what I could have done to improve the image would help. Thanks!

I didn't look at the entries in this challenge, much less vote on them, but I feel that this displays not enough shallowness in the DOF. Although there are blurred figures, the whole seems to be dominated by the globe, which seems sharp throughout, thereby rendering the blurred figures simply annoying. If the globe had been blurred, then I feel that the whole mood would have been altered.

What AJ said. Your lens doesn't have a wide enough aperture on that type of scene to render a shallow DOF. At f/3.5 you need to put some distance between your subject and the background (or foreground). Your Dragonfly Chimes is a better example of shallow DOF.

As per the comment I left during the challenge, and ditto scalvert and AJAger - needed more DOF. There is also a little too much going on in the picture. When doing shallow DOF, the idea is to isolate your subject using DOF (i.e., making your subject the one clear thing in the picture). There is a lot to look at in this picture, thus the DOF was not used to "isolate" your subject (or at least not enough), IMO.

I would have to agree with much of what has been seen so far. I think the lighting is too bright here and reflects off the golden pieces too harshly. I also think that DOF doesn't do enough to isolate any one object or vertical plane. I several comments in the forums saying something along the lines of "shots of little statues aren't very exciting" and it's something I'd have to agree with. One of the biggest things beyond technique would be the subject matter - it's hard for me to relate to. I look at the image and ask myself, "What is the significance of three Africas? Does it mean something to me?" The way I score, I consider the technical first - lighting, composition, and fitting the challenge description. If it fulfills these, it gets a 5. If it means something to me and has the extra oomph, I add points accordingly.
