Hi there everyone. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on which software to use to automatically dump all the files from a memory card to a directory on your hdd (like Nikon's monitor - the reason I am moving away from this software, which works brilliantly for JPGs, is that it won't do my Canon RAW images).

Any suggestions?

Any reason you don't want to just drag and drop within Windows Explorer? This is the safest way to do it, as you can be sure it won't alter your EXIF data (some software does).

Hi Terry,

I'm going to be doing a wedding at the end of the month and I want a nice streamlined way of dumping my shots as I go. I sort of wanted to avoid drag and drop but then again if I have the folders open XP will open the card for me...

Good observation about the alteration of files though - something to think about.

PS Elements 4 does it automatically and it retains all of the EXIF info.

So far as I'm aware, doing it through Elements alters the EXIF.

Really? Maybe I shouldn't be doing it that way then... how can I tell?

Picasa2 does not alter Exif, and simply copies and organizes for you. I use it exclusively, and so do many others i've talked to.

I hate the Elements organizer and download tools. Utter crap compared to the simplicity of Picasa.

Just found out the Adobe Downloader that comes with PSE4 should be fine if you are shooting RAW (that's all I shoot)

I am also a big Picasa fan. It is easy to use, makes finding and organizing your immages a snap, and best of all it is FREE! I use it to download, organize and view pictures. also for the pictures that only need a little T/U it works great for that too. one other perk, it is also very easy to back up all of your pictures to cd's or dvd's. it keeps track of what you have backed up so you dont make 20 copies of the same immage wondering if you have backed it up already.

Something to think about - thanks for the discussion that was generated here. I'll check out Picasa (because it's free :) ) and go from there. There was an interesting question about how you can tell whether the EXIF data is altered. I'll look forward to someone jumping in on that one perhaps.
