Hi all I have recently got an Canon EOS 350D an upgrade from my Powershot S50. So I have tried to take photography a little more seriously - getting out at weekends with the camera etc. I would like you to take a look at a couple of shots I have taken recently and let me know what you think.

Here are a couple taken at Brixworth Country Park:

And here is one taken in Castleford with my S50:

Thanks all for your time
Barry

I like them, and the second one I like the best. You have a talent for using your foreground. The third photo has a very strong foreground element, while the others have nice textures, etc., but not as strong a focus. I like the tones and colors in each, though you might try getting a polarizer with your groovy new camera! Congrats on the new upgrade!

I think the first one is my favorite. IMO it stands out more from what you normally see.

That's some really nice photos, I like #1 the most, it has nice colours.
BUT, the photo also seems to have 2 dust spots in the sky

Happy shooting

Shame about the lighting or they could have popped.

What were you trying to get over when you took these photos?
There's nothing bad with them, it's just that there's nothing about them to really catch the attention either, I was just wondering where you were heading with these.

EDIT: Looked at them again, if you crop the third one in half and look at the bottom half, with a bit of tweaking that could be great.

Hi thanks for the post,
I thought I would be able to get some good photo opportunities at this country park but being winter the day was a little off and it was not the place I had hoped for :(

What I was trying to do...

After reading loads of theory about photography and really being a bit of a noob, I was trying to get into to thinking about composition and taking full control of my camera. I think my eye for a good shot needs some work.

I did have a ND Grad filter with me but that didnt seem to do much for the sky.

Erm, I'm rambling.

Anyway, thanks for the comments so far everyone.

Nice photos - I like the second one best. I like the triangles in the clouds and lake being nearly the same angle, and the ripples in the water are interesting.

They are strong- keep going. I am in the same boat -Canon A-95, shopping for the D-350... really want the capability of this camera but afraid to try.
