I was shooting a call I heard go out over the scanner today for the paper and had some trouble with my camera. Can anybody help me out with this one? While shooting, my camera started to malfunction. It displayed an error F--. I was using my Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens when it happened. I turned it on and off and even removed the lens. It would fire a few more pics then act up again. Any clues? It's never done this before and I been using this lens for a few montsh now. |

The F-- error normally means that the lens is not attached properly or it is a non-cpu lens (the 70-200 is a CPU lens however).
Maybe the F mount connection has come losse? Or the gasket is not seating? Sorry, can't be of any real help. |

Sounds like you have a faulty lens. I'd be willing to take it off your hands for a $100. |

Hope you get it worked out, jtf ~ I've got a Nikon D70S, too, and I NEVER want to have a technical breakdown! LOL... What would I do without my little friend...!!!

Please check that your 70-200 lens F-stop ring is set to 22(or 32 whatever is in orange) this will cause that fault if trying to shoot in auto or P mode a simple quick check is see if it is working in A or S, M modes if it shows the same error then you may have a serious problem, I tried fitting a very old lens on my D2H and knocked the connection ring out ... some lenses worked but some didnt.
hope it helps

sounds like a possibility to me as well...although usually "F--" means the camera doesn't even think a lens is there -- the aperture ring should flash "Fee" ???

Pretty strange malfunction. I would switch to auto and it would snap a couple then go bad I swithed to Apeture it would snap a couple then go bad there too. I went back to auto and the shutter sounded very strange and fired very quick leaving me with a very dark shots. I turned it off removed the lens put it back on and away it went for about 5 or 6 shot then Phhhfft. Back to bunk. Haven't had it out today I'm afraid to find out it's broke. |
