Especially those of you on the south east coast, I̢۪m going to be going on vacation in that area for the next couple weeks, leaving this Friday. I̢۪ll be in Sydney January 29th through February 1st, then on Lord How Island till the 6th, then to Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Gold Coast, and Noosa Heads for a day or two each.

It might be late notice but if any of you in the area might be interested in meeting up to shoot some pictures, drinks, or whatever let me know. Also, although I̢۪ve got an itinerary which hits some of the more touristy places and also some less touristy any tips on interesting things to see or places to go would be cool. Let me know!

Always wanted to go oto Lord Howe.....some great fishing at Balls Pyramid if your into the large pelaegic fish.

Our last three holidays have been at Noosa, Coffs, and the GC and all three places have plenty of places to stop for a beer.

A shame you won't make it to the sporting capital of Oz, (Melbourne), as I would've been up for a day trip and an evening beer.

Have fun.

Gday Bazz, Ben. Any Perth DPC devotees around? Got all excited a few days ago when I spotted a black swan in someone's portfolio...then realised the shot was taken in a zoo.

Theres a fair bit to do in Sydney around Darling Harbour but its all overpriced i.e

Botanical Gardens (not interesting but a good place to relax and free)

Aquarium
Taronga Zoo (catch the ferry from Wharf 2 $37)
Bridge Climb (Harbour Bridge)
Skywalk (walk on top of Centerpoint tower)
Centerpoint tower

Or travel to Blue Mountains (thats where i live lots of bush, wildlife etc. 1 hour drive from CBD)

If you like clubbing go to Cav Ave in Surfers (gold coast) and cockle bay in Sydney. The best pub in the world is in the rocks Lowenbrae keller

How you travelling? Bus?

Henry-

We've rented a car in Sydney, the rest of the time we'll be getting around by bus/taxi. We've got a full day planned going out to the Blue Mountains, and I've also gotten a space on the Bridge Climb. Thanks for the other suggestions too, I'm going to look into them :)

I'm not sure that I'm going to be able to meet up, but I hope you enjoy your time in Sydney.

Word of warning regarding BridgeClimb - it's a great view, but don't expect to be able to take your camera up there, you're not allowed to take anything except the clothes you're wearing. Partly so they can sell you the photos they take, and partly for safety reasons - anything dropped could kill someone driving below.

You can get some good photos wandering around the Rocks area in Sydney. You should enjoy the Blue Mountains, lots of nice things to see up there including waterfalls and such. If you're wanting to photograph kangaroos and other iconic Australian fauna, then there are probably wildlife parks on your route that would be better (and cheaper!) than Taronga Zoo in Sydney (Lentil, any in your area?). And I'm very envious about your time in Lord Howe Island, I'd love to travel there.

If you want kangaroos, go to the national park in glenbrook. $7 entry per car. Let me know if you go though cause I back on to the park.

in my area you have the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby (just off the F3 freeway to the left) great place for taking photos. There is also somersby falls nearby there as well. Lots of waterfalls, very pretty.
Loads of beaches near me and surrounding areas.

One bumb from me before I leave! Two days when I don't have anything planned are the 29th (Sunday) and the 1st (Wednesday). Also I'll be free any time in the evenings of the 29th through the 1st. I won't be going as far south as Victoria, the farthest south we get is in Sydney and after that we travel north.

Anyone been to Tasmania ? I'm going in a few weeks, staying at Freycinet Lodge and looking for shooting suggestions. Think wineglass bay/ cradle Mtn shouldn't be too taxing to shoot for a few days, but any specific suggestions would be great.

Wonderful area, you should have lots of fun. I was down there a few years ago with a couple of friends who were also keen photographers.

There are several walks around there and all are worthwhile. Crater Lake walk is nice, and not strenuous, you should spot plenty of interesting photo ops along the way. There are walking maps and topographic maps available either from the Lodge or the Visitor Centre nearby.

Note that that area is sunny only about one day in ten, on average, and the weather can change quickly - so you may want to take both sun protection and rain protection, plus a jacket even if it is warm when you set out.

How long are you in Tasmania? I can give you some other suggestions if you're interested.

Only there for about 2 days, then Melbourne. Spending most of the time in Adelaide really.
