I have high respect for you Larus, but your entry, I think, is just another call for a big overhaul of the editing rules. I would never have guessed that vignetting on purpose would be legal in basic.

I agree Caleb, which is why I started the thread myself in a reasonable way. I'm only saying that I want clearer rules, I'm not calling for a DQ here.

I know, I know...

I'm not taking sides on the whole raw editing thing though. I don't shoot raw...so I guess I don't really understand it as much as the people that do. So I just stay out of it. I'll let you guys talk about it instead.

I did like his shot though...a lot.

Anywho...I will let this thread carry on without my presence.

It did, but the DQ message does not make sense.... it mentions major element and this was basic challenge. SC?

Yes, 4th place was DQed because of vignetting in RAW to add darkening to sections of the image. Remember that this was a basic editing challenge.

SC is working on an official position on the use of vignetting in RAW in basic challenges. Please be patient, these things are not easy sometimes to put into words, and it is often difficult to make decisions when the lines aren't clear cut (and never will be).

I'd like to add - it is unfortunate that the image wasn't dQed before the challenge ended, it would have been better that way, but SC was discussing the issue and time flew by. I hope you all understand.
