Yeah, importing took about 10 hours for me. I actually think it is a network issue. The iView forums are full of people complaining about its performance over a gigabit network with NAS. |
10 hours? That would bother me! My "slow" was a few minutes per 1000 files. |

I'm using iView Medio Pro, but I usually import images in smaller batches so import performance hasn't been a problem.
I also use iPhoto for single projects rather than for my entire catalog of images. iPhoto's integration with other mac tools makes it very easy to take images from a single project and work into slideshows, movies, DVDs, etc.

Check out FastStone //www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
It's totally free.
I used to use ACDSee exclusively.
This has some very intuitive features when in full screen view. |

I've been trying to find time for awhile to organize my images but with all the CD's and most of them in KY with my wife and some here in Illinois it just makes it hard...
on a side note I have contacted Sony with what I think I would love to have and maybe something a lot of photographers would use...
They have a 400-Disc DVD/SA-CD/CD Mega Changer that can read jpgs, dvd's etc but only (unless I missed something) to your TV. I suggested they make a version of this for connection to your computer, with a burner installed and organizing software that would instantly allow you to go to the disk that you are looking for.
Sure cataloging all those images would be a task at first but I think in the long run it would be nice to have the system automatically bring up the disk you want or even eject it for you. Still haven't heard anything back from them...I'm hoping they will send me a free on to test lol.

Under each of your main categories, try creating a sub category for each file type. For example, under "flowers" I have a "finished" category, a "jpgs" category, and a "waiting" category. My psd files go into "finished", the original jpgs go into the "jpgs" category, and so on.....

Faidoi, what's cheez like? Is it worth the price or is it a steal?
I've just been using Windows for all my organizing. Just have to be sure to name folders carefully and not get lazy. |
I really like it because it's easy, VERY EASY. This was a pain, but now I find it to be a benifit, but it doesn't alter the original image. For example, if I take an image and crop it, the original file is still in tact and I can just export the changed image for a copy. It also stores your undo's, so that even if I changed a picture months ago, I can undo each step to get to how it was when I first bought it into Picasa. It sorts by date, but you can have additional collections. So I have one for family, friends, photography, etc. For general use, I highly recommend it. It's really fast too. |
