Hi guys, I've been given the task to help out shooting at a friends runway show Tuesday evening and I'm wondering whether any experienced photographers could assist me with any tips or hints?

Is it usual that the lighting at the event is sufficient, or will I need a lot of assistance with an off camera flash? Where is usually the best vantage point to capture the action?

Thanks in advance.

Hey. Although I've never shot a runway show before, I think there are some things you could do.

First, you should ask your friend about the lighting conditions, there may or may not be enough light. If not, you should bring one or more flashes, just make sure you diffuse them properly or only use them as fill flash (it would be interesting to place multiple flashes along the runway and use them as slaves, but you must take care that other photographers don't trip them off).

As for the vantage point, the classical (from what I've seen) position is at the end of the runway, with the models facing you. If your friend allows it, I suggest you take some classical shots but also move around and look for some original vantage points (low angles enhance the model's long legs). Try shooting from the start of the runway towards the crowd, it could be an interesting shot.

Good luck, and most of all, have fun!
Cheers,
