I snapped these two candids of a sweetie pie at work and want to print them for her mom...do you think the color or the b/w work best, and why?

Black and white. Puts more attention on the tyke and less on the background.
Adorable photos either way you go. |

B&W background, colour subject?

I like the B&W's personally.
Color has a funny way of making an image really busy in the brain (I actually have one too..) trying to process all the colors, thus distracting from the emotion that is underlying.
Color is cool, but B&W is more moving to the soul in my opinion.

I like the color version of the first one, but on the second photo the bright background on the right of the color version is distracting to me.
Edit: Well maybe not so bright, but it is distracting to me.

well- parents have always been notorious for picking black and white so if you want to please them you might go that way. Personally I like the color- it makes her eyes seem so deep & dark. Maybe you could you burn the highlights on the gold chain a little- my eye keeps wandering to it. Adorable pics! :0)
edit to say- what about sepia? would proabably work very well with her skin tone & eyes!

I am kind of leaning toward the b/w myself I think. I just have to give these shots to her mom, who is 17 and expecting her third child soon. She doesn't have much joy in her life except for her children and I think the sweet expressions on Paola's little face are the best medicine for her mom right now. Thanks for the suggestions so far! :)

I think I like the B&W shots better than the color ones, the background colors draw attention away from her cute little face. Good job Laurie. |

Black and white for the win, it gives the picture more character in a way. |

Why not give the mom all 4 - let her decide. Personally, I like all of them. I usually like B&W more. I do alot of wedding photography and what I like is the B&W background with the colour subject - i.e. B&W and colour mixed.
Very friendly subjecy you got there though. Lovely photos.

The b & W shows me a face and asks what kind of person she might me. The colour version appears to be selling me something in pinkish-purple (for which the child serves as a model), I'm not likely to ever consider.
