Well, youâve got me for another year.
Iâve just renewed my membership again.
My only problem is that I must have photographers block.
I just canât seem to think of anything to photograph.
Iâve entered 15 challenges in the past 12 months.
Thatâs all.
I love taking pictures and hitting the update button and all the other stuff that goes with it, but Iâm just blank when it comes to the challenges.
Even the âfree studyâ challenges fail to get any inspirational thoughts going.
Any ideas on how to get past this mental block?

Just go out for a walk and take your camera. Don't plan to shoot something. Just go out and see what happens. |

Just take pictures of stuff.
Cruise through the galleries at pbase, photosig, other competition sites.
Look at photographers' galleries online.
If all else fails, go to the big stock companies and look at stuff.
Sometimes seeing another's nice photo can trigger your own creative juices and you create somethin even better. |

I love this web-site but it does have the tendency to make photography a little less playful because most of us want a good score. This sometimes means "why bother" with an image that won't score well. Personally I have been funked by that thought but I have to get back to my roots ...
take some sh!tty pics ... snap snap snappy! ...
If you're looking for assignments:
Attach your camera to an animal and remotely photograph from him/her ...
I guess I thought of this because of your "What?" photo!
good luck.

Take your camera everywhere you go. In the car, at a stoplight, I've taken some shots I love. Start seeing the world like you're looking through a viewfinder. I have to be careful because I do it TOOO much.
Go to a bookstore and look at travelbooks, photography books, even calendars. What is your FAVORITE thing? DOgs? Women? Sports? What is your passion? Think of it and take some pictures of it. Just take 100 pictures one day and if you get 2 - you are doing great~~
Good luck.

believe me, I do look at everything as if it was through a view finder-a "bad" habit I've gotten into over the past couple of years.
and I do take loads of pictures whenever I go out and take my camera with me.
my problem is that I can't think of anything that is going to be suitable for a challenge.
Take this latest challenge, the 2 second one, it's basically a free study.
but I can't think of anything that I'm going to like enough to enter.
nothing.
my minds blank.
void of all ideas.

You have three ribbons in 48 challenges over the past two years. I don't think I can help you! Seriously, Dude, I understand the feeling all too well. Just stage some nice, easy, tabletop, candlelit studies of anything. You can't go wrong! |

Why come up with something new? Everything's been done 1000+ times by other people anyway. Just make your own version of someone else's photo that you like. You'll probably win a ribbon. If not, then maybe it'll lead to some original ideas.

Maybe this is why I do not score that well. I just go out and take photos of whatever fancys me. I will spend a couple of hrs early sat morning just for the sunrise and whatever. If by accident a image fits a challenge "WALA". If not oh well. I may spend a day thinking about the challenges and what to photograph, but when it comes to taking images, I just go with the flow. I like taking candid shots. I do not like setting up the scene, probaby because I would have to think too much LOL.
Oh I just renewed also a few days ago. Year 2 starts at the end of the month.

Shot what you like to shot... if you are still blocked, get a photography book and try to imitate some of the favorite photos in the book.
Hey, your mental block will pass:) I know it will.
Also, change your profile photo... please:) |
