I'd like some comments about this picture I took today. I'm still very new to photography and bought a tripod last week. This was my first attempt to make some pictures at nighttime. Unfortunately it was very windy (and cold) making it difficult to keep the camera from moving. Out of 20 pictures I made this is the only one I considered a "keeper". I shot it in RAW, used RAWshooter to convert it to JPG and then adjusted the levels and contrast a bit in photoshop. It was taken in south Dublin (Monkstown) along the coastal route to Dun Laoghaire.

The biggest thing I see is the object in the foreground is not identifiable. IMO, something in silhouette needs to be identifiable or at least have a good design.

Wind is NOT your friend, as you found out. It looks like you have a good location. Zooming in on the power plant might give you a cool shot. (Minus the object in the foreground.)

Looks like an interesting metal sculpture. I would rotate the camera and give a little more sky which would be negative space. I would also leave the shutter open a little longer to capture a bit more detail in the sculpture. PP you could darken out the background and sky some with the burn tool.
Pretty cool shot though.

Alright, I suck...LOL

Nevermind my comment about the object in the foreground. I had to reset my computer, and when I did so it reset my monitor to its darkest setting (I have it calibrated with the 2nd brightest).

Sooooooo....when I looked at your pic the first time, It looked super dark...LOL Looking at it the right way, it looks fine and MUCH better.

Sorry *blushing*

I didn't see much noise in the original anyway and the background blur is more due to the aperture/focus balance. The only thing I see in your version is increased sharpness. It improved the background, but also created a sharpening halo around the main subject. Could be corrected by history brushing the previous state on the main subject.
The origanal imo does not have a noise problem.

the noise thing could be my monitor, or maybe i am using neat image too much.

I think some noise was introduced by PS when I "saved for web". I try to keep the image quality for the web as good as possible, but the original on my harddrive does look better :)
