Do you go through, look at all the pictures first, and then rate each one as it compares to others, so do you judge them as they pop up on your screen?

Now that I have my network back up and running an more then enough PC's to use I use the mouse and click a number that I think the photo should score.

If I know I am going to vote on 100% of the challenge, I start at the beginning and vote as they pop up, the caveat being that I try apply a formula of sorts, to be as fair as I can. Then at the end, go back and do final adjustments, esp those I've scored from 7 up. I try limit my 10s to 3 or 4 for a challenge, but no limits on anything less than 10.

However, when time short, look for those that appeal to me, and try get my 5 and 6+ photo's sorted, just to have my selfish say in the ribons :-)

BTW, your piggy butt shot would done well (esp on composition and angle of shot) :}}

I vote as they come up. I don't think it helps to look at them all first because how I vote on a photo makes no difference how the others look; if they are all 1's they are all 1's, if they are all 10's they are all 10's

I judge every shot on its own merrit, not how it compares to others around it - so one shot at a time. I do "bucket" shots though. First pass through all of my favorite shots get a 7. After I've gone through all shots in the challenge I go back through the 7s and sort them to 7s, 8s, 9s, and 10s. Then I'm done. I rarely ever go back to the 5s or 6s.

My voting style has evolved. I vote on pictures as they pop up. A picture that competently meets the challenge and doesn't annoy me in some way gets a 5. A picture that shows some extra effort or panache gets a 6. Pictures that actually move me get a 7, this includes a picture that makes me laugh as long as it's not just a cheap laugh or I'm just laughing at how bad the picture is (but in general, almost any laugh will help a picture's score). Then when I'm done, I will go back to the 7s and bump them up to 8s, 9s and 10s. This is where my vote might be based on relative goodness instead of absolute goodness. For example, let's say that among the 7's I have 10 pictures that I prefer to all the rest. Of those 10, I have 3 that I like the most. I will give 7 pictures an 8 and and 3 pictures a 9. 10's I try to save for pictures that I really love, but I will use it if I want to fine tune my preferences even further.
