I'm looking to build a website where people can view my photos and potentially purchase prints, framed prints, or other photo products. I've reviewed lots of sites and talked to some friends who are much more versed in the web than I am. I'm not lacking opinions at this point - but I am lacking opinions based on experience from other photographers.

I am not a professional but am slowly inching my way towards it. While I am not looking to make a lot of money I would like to feel at the end of the day like I did something with my photography and perhaps fund a photo trip once in a while or buy a new lens or two with the proceeds.

I've looked at platforms like PhotoMax and ExpressDigital (PhotoReflect) but for some reason am not feeling too comfortable yet. Can anyone share their experience with me in this area and provide experience based guidance?

I used PhotoReflect for about a year with great success. Recently switched to ClickImage and though I love their layout & look, I'm not as fond of their fulfillment system. May go back to PhotoReflect before I shoot my next wedding for the easier proofing/ordering system.

Well the iPhoto6 iWeb app is interesting. I used to be a developer in a former life, but have played with iWeb. It is quite simple but creates great looking results quickly... it ties in nicely to iPhoto making setting up pages of photos easy... You do have a Mac don't you?! :-)

The other thing about websites is you need to work to get hits.... I have been lazy lately and my visits are way down.... I have noticed that 85% of visitors to my site come from Google Images... which says two things...

1/ Have lots of photos that can be 'crawled' by Google (i.e. not embedded in Flash etc.)
2/ put time into captions and descriptions...

Good luck....

Oh and to prove a point, 15 minutes on iWeb with one of the initial templates (more are promised shortly!)

Good luck....

PS/ If you have a PC feel free to contact me direct if you need further help...

thanks Pixelstate - I am a PC user but will research your suggestion - I have a technical background but it was years ago. I agree on spending time on captions - makes sense.
