Has the original photographer responded to your new version of their shot. Post their responses and comments. Just want an easier way to read them without having to click on all the pictures. |

My parody (as if it wasn't obvious *g*)
I said in the notes:
"Sonifo's original is much better, perhaps she'll share her secret with me.
One day I'll figure out how to make a decent selection around stuff as fuzzy as feathers or hair.
I'd welcome hints from the experts in that regard. "
Sonifo's original:
and her gracious answer was:
"ROFL!!! First of all, you need better legs. LOL..
I think you did a good job here. To funny!"

My parody, I think was also obvious:
I said in the notes:
"I thought I would add a little humor to his brilliant photo. I hope you're not mad at my parody, Puma?!"
Puma's pic:
Puma's response was a PM, so I will paraphrase, since I dont like to quote unless I obtain approval:
He loved that someone took the time to re-create his photo and thought is very funny.
I was glad he had a sense of humor!
:-)

I unfortunately have not heard from nico_blue yet. I was really hoping to. Maybe sometime soon he will stumble across my tribute. I hope he didn't take offense to it. I had alot of fun setting it up.

Send him a quick PM. I had the same problem, but got a response once I sent him an email.

The awesome original by Tom
My parody
Tom's comment left during voting is below...haven't heard from him yet to see what he thought of my write-up (tried to keep the entire entry similar to his...write-up and all)
LOL, good one.
Lighting is a bit harsh though.
I'm flattered nonetheless. |

Mine (obviously) - I was going for an 'interpretation'...a more sinister or evil look. A lot of people didn't like the color...
Pedro's
Pedro's kind response:
"shaved noggin and everything...oh i likes it...i likes it a lot :)"

I have to say I agree. Something a lot more solid about your shot. |

So I copied my own picture... but honestly, i think the second one is better.
What do you guys think? Cuz according to favorites (25 vs 0), others don't seem to think so... |

One of the best parodies I've ever seen, hands down.

- The Original
- The Tribute
- The Parody
I actually parodized my own shot because I always wanted to get the mastiff into my studio and this gave me an excuse. 3 days after I submitted my shot, a DPCer (Terry) actually wanted to shoot my dog in my studio under my lights. I thought it was hillarious and still think all 3 are great, well-made images. And it was fun! :)

Keegbow's beautiful pic that inspired me
My slum version
First comment I got was from keegbow:
Great idea for the challenge if I do say so myself. You almost got him just needed the reflection to be stronger but the color is great. Thank you.
Truly, I have been inpired by his photo since I saw it. Just couldn't get the stupid bird to cooperate. |

My image: 6.672
Scalvert's image: 7.749
Scalvert's nice comments:
Originally posted by scalvert: Heh, people say it's so easy to use a monitor background, and now you know better, huh? The trick to the color is to concentrate on the hand ONLY. The monitor image will appear blue, but you can desaturate the blue channel to almost-gray and still get a realistic moon without affecting the hand at all.
Looks like you had trouble with scan lines, too- they were in many of my outtakes. The color of your hand looks really weird to me, and the glow seems confined, but I think you got a better bulb shape than I did. I'm glad someone tried one of my shots. Nice job! Interestingly, I got FAR more votes below 5 than you did. :-/ |
I made the conscious decision to reduce the glow around the "moon". Don't have a clue on the hand color. My monitor needs calibration. Software\hardware coming soon.
In retrospect, I should have printed the image of the moon and stars, and shot the hand and bulb base against the printed image. Got hung up on doing it the same way scalvert did.
As usual, I thought of that the morning after it went in to voting.

MCI's Original
My version
I haven't heard from MCI yet...so I don't know if I did the wrong thing or not.

nico_blue original
my tribute...
Haven't heard anything from Nico_blue. I think his shot has a much cleaner, crisper feel than my tribute. And, check the scores, others must have thought so as well :)

Gordon McGregor's original:
John Setzler's take on it in Deja Vu I:
My tribute:
Gordon's comment: "Nice - I like the colour contrast you added to this with the red brush."
While it was fun doing the shot I hate that it's my highest scoring photo. It just doesn't seem right.
