That way those who low vote just for the sake of it have to pass comment (which will probably be too hard for them) and therefore not bother, but if you have a legit gripe about the pic the person who took it would at least know what they may need to do to improve. Same for high votes could apply, as i feel if it rates a WOW score why not say what appeals to you about it.
Sound good??? |
Is the issue the number of 1's being received, or from people's different voting patterns?
Perhaps it would be of benefit if this was standardised somewhat so that the definition of 1 - 10 was cleary explained - rather than everyone making up their own arbitrary way that the scale should be applied.
For example - it appears that some people rate a pleasing and technically brilliant shot that does not quite meet the challenge criteria, to be a 1 while others will rate it a 5 because of the technical aspects of it, while still others will rate it a 10 because they can't fault the photo and give the photographer the benefit of their interpretation for the challenge.
If we all had the same standard to which we applied our voting to, surely that could help somewhat?

Couldn't agree with you more ... there are lot of great picture's that recieve "1's" unfairly ..

forcing everyone to vote in a rigid scale reduces the individuality of the site. not everyone sees things the same way, and not everyone weights the different voting criteria the same way.
right now the 1-10 is explained pretty clearly. 1 (bad) 10 (good). how YOU interpret "bad" and "good" is up to YOU.
now go comment!

I only give "1" if the picture don't meet the challenge and is out of focus, bad exposure and bad composition so don't know how this got 6 "1"'s |
Everyone who get voting average 3 or bellow should be considered malicious ,unfit, his or her votes must not count in future competitions,Shame on them! :-)

True - but the comment that some people are making are why the one votes and no-one is stepping up to the plate to say "Well yes it was me in this case and these are the reasons why I gave it a one".
At the moment, you can't really complain about the low votes as there's no set definition as to what a '1' photo should be.
Apply a bit of consistency to the scoring, then if you do get a one - well THEN you will have a legitimate reason to complain - LOL :)
In the end though, I must admit I'm doubtful that any change to vote scoring would effect the end result, as the cream will usually rise to the top ;) |

Uhoh... I may be in trouble here... I assume you feel the same about anyone with an average above 7? We are, afterall, just as far away from the "acceptable" average of 5
