Hey married men.
So, it is that time of year.
I have been married 16 plus years, and this is the worst time of year for me to figure out what to get my wife.
Gawd, help me...I hate to shop. When I go to the mall to find that special something for my wife, I ask the sales person what they have, and if they have even anything close to what I want, I buy it right there and then.
The challenge to this escapade begins when I have to stand in line with all these other husbands that are just like me.
Am I alone on this, or am I just hitting that xmas wall?

As a confirmed shopping-hater, I just got back from married-mens hell, two days (well, a Saturday night and Sunday morning) of running from store to store, dealing with brain-dead sales people, and horror of horrors, having to go through the customer service product return process - gasp!
Huddle around me guys, I need some support and affirmation.

Sorry boys, I can't relate. I actually like shopping. But I always have a goal in mind when I set out, so that helps. Of course, I'm not married anymore, but I do have considerable experience at being married :-)
Brother Horse, the answer to your problems is "The Internet": even if you don't want to ORDER online, you can check out your possibilities and build a game plan via internet window shopping, so you're not just another lost soul with no goal when you hit the malls.

Looks like this year will be the 100% web shopping for me (past years have been high but I always needed to wander around aimlessly for something or other) and the world is great :-)

Yeah, the internet is a great place for savvey consumers. I like the internet, the thing is, the show that I am on has been on a whirl wind spending spree on the last couple of episodes.
We went to Big Bear for a week (90.6 hours), and out of an 8 day episode schedule, we have been on location 6 days.
I have no life at work except work. No internet, no mall, no cataloge. So, what do I do...I shop the week before xmas.
I could use a genie and three wishes right about now.

didn't know what to get the spouse
so we agreed - we bought our own & have the other wrap them ..
- my wants are usually $$ more than hers so it's a good deal
though i am procrastinating about wrapping the things .. ah .. i got a week ...
(bonus her farther wanted something from B&H photo .. so i got to tag a few stocking stuffers in as well ;) |

Been married for 36 years, have four kids and ten grandchildren. Glad I have a wife, she gets the presents and wraps them all.
Usually get each other lots of small presents just before Xmas Eve.
Guess I qualify to join? |

Bought an Ipod for the wife.
I think this will cover the high end gift. Last xmas it was diamonds.

That's cause historically men are hunters and women sit around chewing the buffalo hides. We talk we scare game, women talk to rest their jaws from chewing hides. Just the facts. :) |

Been with my wife for approx 15 years, married for 9 currently and have 1 son, 1 dog, had 1 cat also but got sick and had to send to the farm...
Ive got it made pretty good though as far as shoping goes, I sit on my butt order online, have it delivered to my parents (there home almost 24/7- retired), they wrap it for me, I pick it up and put under the tree at home :)
and I wouldnt trade her for anything...

2 tips (I've been married 2 years) and as with all people there's so much more to the story â€Â¦
ANYWAY:
1) Get perfume at the dept. Store!!! you won't wait in line.
Why: There are saleswomen swarming you there and want you to smell the stuff ... they even put it on themselves so you can sniff their wrists ... wrist fetish anyone??? - they are so sweet and kiss your @$$ like no one on earth. The only problem is you come home smelling like a whore.
2) Get one big gift. NOT jewelry. I got the wife a nice espresso machine Gaggia - I listened to her and this turns out to be something we can both enjoy. Jewelry is for suckers (yes I have been a sucker many-a-time) but just don't do it - the mark-up is insane.

And get a store card like Macy's. Worth it just to get the customer appreciation coupons which drop the price of perfume to a more reasonable level. |
