Das madchen kritzelte im Central Park mit Kreide auf den Boden. Sie sah meine Kamera, kam her und safte, Mach ein Foto Von meinen Handen.
**This is taken from a heavily pixelated photo. Not too sure on the other words. On how they are spelled. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

The girl scratched on the ground with chalk in Central Park. She saw my camera, came over and said, take a photo of my hands.

aawwww, Gary.... the "scratched" isn't very elegant :-(
"Doodled" or "scribbled" would be much closer. |

You are right "scribbled" is more elegant :) |

"safte" should be "sagte"; "Mädchen" should be capitalized"; "Von" should be lower case.
Translation: "The girl was doodling with chalk on the pavement in Central Park. She saw my camera, came over to me and said "Take a photo of my hands, will you?"

Zeus has just taken the direct translation and sweetened it up a bit by putting lots of flowers around it :) |

Yep... Gary's translation is more accurate.
I would change Zeuszens to:
Translation: "The girl was doodling with chalk on the pavement in Central Park. She saw my camera, came over to me and said "Can you take a photo of my hands?"

This is cute.... we can even have a debate about this LOL!!!
I disagree with the "Can you....". She was much more bossy than that, and actually said: "Take a photo.....". |

Yep true. she didn't ask "sie fragte" it was, said "sie sagte" and there was no can's or could's, only "take a photo" :) Direct translation = "she said take a photo of my hands" |

Thanks for the help everyone!
This is the photo in question:
This is what I wanted to say in English:
This girl was playing with chalk, drawing stuff on the ground. I guess she had the idea of rubbing the chalk all over her palms. I was snapping a few shots, then she came up to me with her hands raised, and said: "Take a picture!"
Now the debate really starts. :)

I am disgusted to admit that I am forgetting my mother tongue :-( I have no problem understanding it, but it is becoming more and more difficult to make correct sentences.
Here is my go at it, other people may have better ways of putting it (sorry, no Umlauts handy):
"Dieses Maedchen spielte mit Kreide, kritzelte auf dem Boden. Sie wollte wohl beide Handflaechen mit Kreide bedecken. Ich nahm ein paar Fotos auf, dann kam sie auf mich zu mit den Haenden in her Hoehe und sagte: "Mach ein Foto"
