I had a couple of "moral issues" comments (obviously for that low votes) on this entry.
Is it fair to vote on moral issues? These people though that the Mom was feeding the baby wine - she was actualy trying to take the glass away (found out later it was grape juice and not wine)

Any comments on the "MORAL ISSUE VOTING"?

why the duplicate thread?

Presumably because so many people have the Rant section completely hidden, and it wouldn't get seen.

Please pick one thread to keep open to I can lock the other ...

Lock the RANT one - I can't even see it. By the way - GE, thanx for the comment. I agree with you. My parents allowed us to drink alcohol (little bit - mostly wine) with dinner. They wanted us to prevent us from grabbing and overdoing alcohol when we were "morally" allowed to do so. This wasn't even wine...

Quite right in any event, it is a good candid. I also agree a bit of contrast (and perhaps darkening the background a bit) to make the child stand out better would have made for much better presentation of the image.

The only question I have is how long it will take for the image to be removed for violating the TOS. ;)

Last week was the celebration of Passover, during which every person attending the Seder or ritual meal -- children included -- is commanded to drink four glasses of wine.

A sip of wine with dinner is more likely to promote a healthy and moderate attitude towards alcohol, rather than making it "forbidden fruit" more subject to secret, irresponsible overconsumption or teetotalling, both of which are (statistically) less healthy than moderate drinking.

We had grape juice available for the kids (and any driving adults) at ours. ;^)

There are always going to be people that have a polarized opinion on a subject such as this. (Whether or not it was really wine, or whether or not the mother was taking it away or giving it is *irrelevant*).

Those opposed are either going to just internally say "I don't agree", or they'll speak out about it.

Once they *do* speak out about it, however, then it is up to you to do one of three things.

1) roll your eyes and ignore it completely and move on

2) get mad, stress yourself out and wonder how on earth anyone could *possibly* disagree or think differently from yourself.

or 3) Calmly explain the situation as an aside or in PMs, thank the person for their comments, and .. again.. move on.

You've opted for 2 this time around, but IMO, 1 or 3 are probably the better choices for next time.

You mean unfermented grape juice, since "wine" means grape juice ... : )

Besides, I'm not sure it's even possible to get drink enough Manischewitz to get intoxicated, unless maybe you use it like pancake syrup ... though I recently discovered that a blend of about four parts cheap merlot or cabernet plus one part Manischewitz Concord Grape plus spices makes a pretty good mug of mulled wine.

Thanx again for the lesson in "ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR" I did send PM's to the people that gave comments - explaining the photo to them. Thus I did take YOUR option 3. Option 1 is not an option for me. If I don't agree - I WILL SPEAK OUT - why not???? It is my choice.

You told the viewers/voters that it was wine in your title. Title has more bearing on an image's score than people care to believe (I would have thought it was cola). And people will vote their life experience, whether it agrees with yours or not (see the perceived KKK image thread). In the US, giving children 'wine' is perceived as morally corrupt (even though christian churches have the sacrament). You are leaving yourself open here.

Personally, I found nothing wrong with the subject. Giving children wine with dinner is commonplace and my son had it at three (its a catholic thing, deal with it). But, I'm a rather non-judgemental person when it comes to image subject and life in general. And I am outside of the norm.

Some people here will always vote subject. That's why you get all the threads saying, "I'll vote down any flower/child/pet/toy/landscape/whatever else in a challenge!" You take your chances just like any 'outside the norm' editing.

I was going to get on my soapbox here, but I thought twice. Its not worth it. If you like the image and the person for whom you took the image likes it, who cares what strangers think?

LOL - interesting mix - don't think I will try it though. Personally I don't drink - Did my share as a student, but these days I will have a beer after a Cricket or Rugby game - usualy this beer will be downed very quickly due to the fact that Richards Bay is VERY hot and humid and to run around for 80 minutes chasing a ball tends to make you thirsty.

So true - I only found out later that it wasn't wine. Actualy said it was a wine glass :-))) Anyway - The mom loved it. Said she is going to keep the photo and have it displayed at the little girls wedding...

I didn't join the rugby club in college, though they had a pretty interesting (if expensive) motto: One keg before the game, one keg during the game, one keg after the game.

I can't remember if they invited (encouraged?) the opponent to share in the refreshments. What's odd is that the school mascot -- the Banana Slug -- is known for drowning in a bowl of beer ...

Had a good laugh. I play for the town - We always practice for 3 hours (Tuesday and Thursday evenings). Actual practice is one hour and then we discuss rugby, girls, cars, tools etc in the rugby pub after the game for another two hours.

Unless voting is changed to strictly forbid any consideration of anything but technical merit, people will include their morals in their votes. They are part of what makes us react to an image, whether positively or negatively. People vote down nudes, and I've seen at least one comment complaining about even cleavage. People vote both directions on religious images. Our morals are part and parcel of who we are and, consciously or not, WILL affect our votes.
There have been many threads lately complaining about lack of comments, especially in regard to low votes. These voters at least told you why they may have voted you down.

So very true - yet all of them had the cat by the tail. Anyway - my fault, I sould've gave the photo a diferent name. Something like "NO - IT IS NOT WINE AND MOM IS TAKING IT AWAY"
