Apparently it was pioneered by musician Graham Nash of Crosby Stills Nash and Young fame. It involved a $126,000 proofing printer manufactured for the offset printing industry that Nash and a former tour manager purchased and modified that currently resides in the Smithsonian. Interestingly Nash currently owns and operates a high quality digital printing lab for professional photographers. It must be pretty sweet to be a respected musician and photographer.
