This is so exciting! It's my first submission. I can see where this gets addictive.

Oh, you don't even know how bad it gets... it's a sickness! We need a self-help group. "Hi, my name is Deb, and I'm an updatebuttonaholic."

Which, speaking of updates, I finally looked again and my negative entry is doing WAY better than it was first thing this morning. Significantly better. I have no idea how it moved that fast, but I sure as heck ain't complaining! (No, not in ribbon territory - "better" to me is relative.) Much happier now, thanks!

From bad (New) to worse. Too far outside the box for this crowd. ;-)

I really liked my image, until I saw what many of you have done with this challenge! There are some really fantastic shots here.

6.39 score something I didn't expect. I thought I would get a pile of 2's or a pile of 8's....however...this could be happening...and averaging a 6.39.

not bad so far.

voting is interesting... i've handed out a couple of 10s, which i almast never do. then, there are whole lot that would probably look quite nice if they were in positive, but are just too visually confusing in negative.

Negative Images

Just a simple two step tutorial to help you make the negative images you get when you get a set of photos.

Firstly, we need a photo to work with, so open up a photograph that you have, perhaps one you found on the internet, or one you took yourself.

I am using this photo of some of the brave soldiers fighting in Iraq that I found on the internet

(Ignore this next step if for whatever reason you have a black and white photograph)

Now, as photo negatives are not in colour, the first thing we need to do is to remove colour from the photograph. This is done by going to Image->Adjustments->Desaturate (the shortcut to which is Shift+Ctrl+U).

The photo should now be in black and white. To make it into a photo negative image, go to Image->Adjustments->Invert (Ctrl+I).

You are now done, the final image should look like this

If you have any questions concering this tutorial, please ask on the Forum

This is from Photoshop tutorial
Guess I dont know where all the color is comming from
Seems a negative image should not have color in it ?
Or at least anything created in photoshop out of a color print is not a negative..Photoshop cannot make a true color negative.

Gah! Two hours ago I was in the low 6's. Now, just two hours later, I'm clutching onto a 5.60. Dang late morning voters! >:~\

I'm going to have to spend the rest of my days at work (besides the times that I keep checking the scores) willing at my score to increase...even though that method hasn't worked for my salary yet :)

Not sure why one would think that negatives don't have color? If anyone has any film negatives left laying around, a quick check of holding the "negatives" up to a light will show lots of colors ... unless it's a B&W negative then it will show .... you guessed it .. B&W. There is opposition in all things and color has a very definate negative effect ... at least on a few people. Don't think that this challenge was designed as a B&W Negative contest, let's be friends, we can all live together and not descriminate on the basis of color ;)

For some of you this would be a disappointment, but for me it's a great score! :)

Hard to tell this early. I only gave one 10 on this. Lots of boring shots IMHO. Ok I'm going to duck to miss those flying tomatoes for saying that.

My first submission. 5.4 is about average for a score out of 10, right? (well ok 5.5 is but I rounded up some :P)

Looking at the submission I dont think mine was clever enough. Oh well, hopefully I'll learn something!

Before this challenge my personal best isn't even 5.4, so you're doing good. The morning voters are taking me down quite a bit.

Well this was a pleasant surprise.
Being used to coming in and seeing a much lower score in the morning,
was rather nice to see one that went up for a change.

My average is 5+.

Can anyone else beat 38 votes w/ no comments?

Please please...I beg of you... Vote on entries as if no rules were broken. I submitted proof to SC like they asked.

I'm getting comments that are critical of my entry b/c of "basic rules" violations...

...I see several others like mine in the challenge....please vote according to the rules.

Good luck to you, Fat Louie.

same trouble here... i was sitting at 6.5-ish when i left the house this morning... i really wish people would vote _after_ the morning cup of coffee, and not before...
