Gosh, I'm sorry! I think I'm the one who took your point. Scores are fluctuating WILDLY on this one. I started this morning at a somewhat disappointing 5.3, and am now around 6.3 (!). I promise that before the week is out, I'll end up giving you back at least half of that, OK?
Weird voting on this one it seems. |

We must have the same photo ... mine did exacly the same thing. This challenge is one of wild swings indeed.

Yup
Last 2 hrs has dropped me under a 7.0 (barely)
But the 13 great comments and 2 favs far more than make up for it. |

| weehatch - when you have an active entry in a challenge, the stats appear on the upper left of your homepage. If you're not seeing that, go to My Preferences, and make sure on site preferences you've checked the box to display your stats. Hope that helps, welcome, and good luck! |

This is my first posting... 5.3+, and I've only had my camera a month, so I'm pretty happy.
A quick question: How does everyone rate photos? I mean, 1 to 10 is extremely subjective. Are there norms on this site? When I rated, I gave out one 10, very few 8s and 9s, and zero 1s,2s, and 3s (I feel like I'm a very new photographer, and I don't quite have the right to judge that low.)
So in general, I've been rating most pics between 4 and 6. Is that typical? Are there any standards people use other than, "Do I like this picture or not?"

| Hmmm, been averaging just average for the first 70 votes, then the past 3 have averaged 3..... whassup?? I hope that's not going to become my new average, I'd much rather be average average if I can't be above average! |

I think mostly it's a combination of factors such as technical details (is it in focus where it should be? Are there blown highlights? Details such as stray fuzz or wrinkles in backdrops), if it meets the challenge description, and its appeal as a piece of art. I'm a newbie too, and what I did the first couple challenges was go through them afterwards and compare my comments and votes to the rest and see how close I was, and also study others' comments to see the type of thing I needed to make note of in my own pics. I have learned SOOOOO much that way :)
