I tried yesterday, but didn't work out allright.
Everybody knows how some / most of the other members look like, expecially after the 30-days challenge, so I have the feeling this challenge is partly gonna be some sort of a popularity contest. That really would be a pity. |

Just don't take this challenge seriously. There will be popularity, but overall the best pictures will be highest. Just think of it as a challenge where the popular people (usually those who benefit the site through frequent posting or such) are rewarded for their contributions.
I'm not really worried at all about where I place in this one. It's just going to be fun to see what people come up with. |

Sounds like a glitch. Mine uploaded just fine... though my longest dimension is 680. Is it under 200MB?

Geesh, I really hope not biteme, but that is an unfortunate possibility. |

My weak theory was that maybe it tossed up the wrong error message.
And yes, the maximum file size for SP is 200MB. Mine went in at around 196MB. ;-)
(edit fixed a typo)

Count me in as one who initially thought I never wanted to photograph myself after the 30-day thing. I simply could not think of another way to feature myself in a shot, so I decided to use this opportunity to do a re-shoot of one of the SPs that I liked pretty well but thought could be better. I guess I'll know how many people watched that thread by how many "what a cop-out" comments I get. :)
I also worry about this being a popularity contest, but ehh, who cares. As long as I stay out of brown territory I've learned to have a pretty thick skin about challenge placement. I took a shot I like; it's one I'm getting a print of for my husband's desk; I took it for the challenge and entered it, and I'm interested to see how it does, but if it flops entirely I'll know that that doesn't mean I have to stop liking it myself.

Do you think it would count as a self portrait if I set up the lighting, camera, focus/exposure, and the thing I would do for the camera, but someone else actually clicked the shutter? Timing is kind of critical in the shot I want to do, I could be out of the frame 9 times out of 10 if I use self timer :P
(Then again, I might not be able to track down someone willing to take the picture anyway) |

From the rules: "You may let someone else press the shutter if you are unable to, but you must be the one who set up the shot and configured the camera." And yes it's still a self portrait. :)

This is probably my first self portrait ever, and looking at the result, I will easily contend for the brown. Oh well, it's just an average, right?
edit: Actually, on further review, I'm just going to skip this challenge. I just KNOW it wouldn't score well.

Pffff... I am in also, haven´t actually taken the shot yet but I will be in this challenge even though I HATE having my picture taken, wether it be by me or someone else. What I won´t do for the Mag 7 team :S |

I'm in, ironically enough. I HATE portraits of myself, but thankfully this is an advanced editing challenge :)
I am really looking forward to this one, even more so then my environmental portrait entry. Can't WAIT for rollover!!!! PSYCHED!! |

I have a question about the advanced editing rules...
The rules state that
"using any editing tools to duplicate, create, or move major elements of your photograph is not permitted."
What is considered a "major element?"
Does this rule out using the Liquify Filter to alter the mouth to make the lips appear slightly more closed?
Also, does it rule out using the brush to draw in a tear that didn't get caught in this particular shot?
Forgive me if these questions seem to have obvious answers... it's just that I've not submitted into a challenge before and I'm not really familiar with all the details.
Thanks for any advice... |

My understanding is that color changes are accepted. If it's an advanced challenge you can change the colors all you want (as long you don't do it to create or remove a "major element")
