Many Hot Air balloon shows have an evening "glow", "ballumination", or lighting. We have one coming up here in North Alabama called the Alabama Jubilee.

Any tips on getting unique photos during this type of event?

(Sorry if this is a repost, I did a couple of searches and didn't find what I was looking for yet.)

Just a couple of reminders that are easy to forget in the "heat of the moment" when the balloons are firing up...
1) Set your camera on noise reduction
2) Use a remote or bulb so as to avoid camera shake
3) If you're short (speaking from experience) take a step stool. That way you can extend your tripod to full height, get over the heads of other spectators, and still see into your view finder.
4) I'm not familiar with your camera's capabilities but try a multiple exposure if it will allow...if they're lighting the balloons to music, you can get some really etherial results with multiple shots.
5) Have Fun!!

tripod for sure...find night balloon shots and look at the exif - not as long exposure as you would think since the light usually gets progressively brighter, relatively speaking. Turn noise exposure on so that any exposures longer than one second will be treated in cam. A remote switch is good since you usually have time to set up before the light up and then all you have to do is click/click-hold the remote. May sound funny, but practice with various types of paper bags with candles in them at dusk and get to know how the camera responds to the changing lights - sky going darker/balloons getting brighter. This will help a lot. Use multiple bags at the same time to simulate different types/color balloons. Try to work at the same time/light conditions as the light off will be...and watch the long range weather for a couple weeks beforehand and follow one weather guy that seems to be most reliable. Don't want to get there all ready for clear skies and find it is cloudy and you now don't know what to do. Time is limited and the balloons fill faster than you think. Especially when you are trying to set up a shot. Their shape is ever changing until full and then they are ever moving. Best advice is to be prepared.
