OK. I have a pic, 640x480, 72dpi, and it's 300 Kb (in grayscale).
What can I do to avoid the 150Kb size??

You're only allowed to submit jpeg files anyway, so increase the compression on your jpeg. We've run a number of tests, and we feel that 150kb is more than ample to eliminate jpeg noise on very high-detail images.

And my other concern is that you're using dpi as a measurement, which I'm not used to using in a non-print environment. We're not talking scanned images here, are we?
