I will now mark this thread *watched* and when I have the urge to eat, when I am not truly hungry, or need to eat, I can come and view and suddenly, that impulse will be lessened significantly.

Back in 2001, my daughter and I were in Indian Princesses together, a father/daughter program through the YMCA. At our Spring Tent Out, we had a pig roast on Saturday night. This was gross enough for all the little girls (though quite delicious) but it got worse when we dads took the pig's head, stuck it on a metal tripod and set it on fire!

No Father of the Year awards handed out at that event... :)

It did get attacked - by what type bird I am not sure. I heard the commotion on my deck, looked out and a few feathered friends flew away - all but one.

vtrun: it's a finch - we have tons of them here.

I was going to use this for Unexpected Find...but the focus is crap so I just moved it to my dead collection and decided to share it here

The bill is not a seedeater type, too pointed for a finch to me. They break seeds, this looks more insect eating type. But it maybe the angle.

A shrike might have killed it. just some thoughts, Van

My cat has brought me a couple of these. One actually died in my hands:(
At that time, I googled it and thought it was a warbler.

Possibly the best dead beast photo ever, by Joey Lawrence! Wow!

Mine was a Pine Warbler.

They hang around low bushes and are easy targets for cats.

PS. I agree with vtruan about the beak. The American Goldfinch has a thicker, shorter beak than this photo.

If you look at bill, it is not as thin as a warbler, and thick as a finch... That's why I believe it to be a vireo. Van

I found dead beast yesterday but was more interested in getting a shot of the vulture with it, but a car, being considerate and swinging wide around mine, scared it into the trees. I watched it a while, but it wouldn't return to the kill, so I gave up. Squirrel remained unphotographed, and so did vulture, dammit!

I checked it out and you are right ....this is a Common Yellow-throat. Thank you for saying so - it made me do some research.
