I've been trying for ever to get around to getting an Easter picture of my kids. I finally had them all home this afternoon, and it was beautifully overcast, so I cojoled, pleaded, begged and bribed them into their Easter clothes, got them all outside, and the sun came out, totally messing up the lighing. Arg. And then my darling 3 year old decided to do this for almost ever shot:

Save it for her rehersal dinner, or if she's a handful as a teenager, to threaten to show to her dates.... :)

I hear your frustration. The more subjects the harder it is to get a good photo:-)

Looking at your example photo, this is the time to use a trick method. Tell them on the count of three you will snap the picture. Your youngest will wait until the count of three as her cue to do the Can-Can. On the count of one you then snap several before you reach the count of three:-) Sneaky, yes? And it just might net you a good photo or two.

Very cute and I can definately sympathize .. we have 6 kids and can never get them all to cooperate at the same time! :)

I say let the kids be kids. Do you really want a standardized portrait that everyone else has? It looks like she's being herself and in 10 or 20 years that will be the best memory!

I totally understand your pain with the lighting, tho. I know that all too well :(

I spent a couple minutes with curves adjustments and while you can't recover the blown highlights, you can still retrieve a decent image.
