mine is not a flower but still getting hammered so do not feel to bad I am only at 4.2 and that is with a pic I thought would do a lot better you just never know in here what mood people are in. Almost seems like people are pissed and voting everything down. I will post my pic later I have been here for more than a year and seen a lot I do not think my pic deserves a score this low (waaa, waaa) :)

score 5.3

With so many submissions I think the scores are going to be low. I also think that people are trying to say a flower shot is unoriginal and loses points because there are 200 of them submitted. I did not submit a flower shot.

I think there were a lot of flower shots simply because flowers work well as a subject for a bokeh shot. It does get harder when there are a lot of them. I've entered waterfalls in challenges which had a dozen waterfalls (shutter speed comes to mind) and I think my score suffered from it, but I guess that's the risk you run. You can still win with a cliche shot, but you HAVE GOT to do it perfectly. People are subtly or not so subtly comparing your shot to similar shots (I usually scan the thumbs at rollover and breathe a sigh of relief when I don't see another shot like mine), so you have to rise to the top.

I fully expect at least one flower shot in the Top 10. Probably even more.

Do you have to be a member to have your current scores show for your submittal? I already checked the "show scores" box on my profile page but still no show. This is my first entry and maybe there is nothing to show?

No you don't. Are you looking in the right place? When the box is ticked your score will show below your image in the lefthand column of the home page.

Sorry to bother you guys (or ya'll down here) but I followed your advice and my home page shows I have entered zero challenges. But my photo clearly shows as being in the challenge. I must have done somethin wrong. By the way, thanks Rikki for the Ctrl + F5 trick.

It will show zero until after the challenge ends. The stats you are looking for are on the DPChallenge home page, left hand side of your screen at the top.

If this is your first challenge your 'profile' page will say you've entered no challenges until this one is over. (not the home page - main page)

I've got through 46% so far, and I'm having a really hard time finishing... I usually go for 100% but it might take me a few days here.

And I honestly feel guilty because there are some really decent flower shots, but I'm having a tough time rating them well, especially when my heart drops a little more every time a flower comes on my screen. After 46% done, I've found ONE photo that really stands out and deserves a 9 or a 10.

...and it didn't have a flower in it.

This isn't directed at you necessarily, but I think criticism of this challenge is interesting... while I think that there are a lot of pictures with bad to no bokeh, I keep hearing, "this picture is/ is not bokeh" - I don't think a picture IS or ISN'T bokeh, I just think some have a good or bad use of bokeh.

Does that make sense?

I just voted 100% in this challenge.

My Gawd, I never knew how many differant flowers could be photographed for one challenge. Is this the correct challenge title? Bokeh?? It should of been Botany.

Anyway, some nice stuff. Since there were so many 'diverse' images, I really was picky with my vote.

And my prediction of my score for my submission has been realized. 5.6.

Good luck everyone, ...oh and that includes all those that did not submit a flower of some sort as well.

Finished voting 100% and 20% commented. I've found my pick for the ribbons and not likely to change my mind. Now I just have to go back to review the middle tier votes. :)

There were some great flower shots...HOWEVER, when I vote, much of my vote is whether or not the challenge aspects were achieved, and HOW ORIGINAL THE PICTURE IS!

When you jump on the flower bandwagon, all you tell people is that you have pretty much ZERO creativity.

I gave all the flower entries a 3, whether they were good or not, because I felt that the lack of originality severely kills the greatness of their shot.

Master painters could remake the Mona Lisa, but if there was an art portrait contest and 50 painters entered their version of the mona lisa, how do you think that would be taken? I find it quite rediculous that in a challenge with so many possibilities, over half of the entries were flowers. That really caused me to vote low.

How about you hang around a bit more before dispensing all knowing knowledge of what has/has not been done in challenges here previously?

Are you saying that all of the flower pictures entered are the same? I strongly disagree.
As a matter of fact, I had a tough choice between a non-flower shot and the flower shot I posted, but felt there was an additional story being told in the flower shot.

Maybe it's just me, but I think there is REALLY something wrong with this statement. As an entrant, I am asking you to vote on MY image, not how it compares to others. How is MY composition, MY color, MY focus and MY BOKEH?!?

Shouldn't you be giving 10s to original pictures instead of giving 3s to your opinion of an unoriginal picture? Your vote is your vote but your method seems backward to me.

I hate to say this but creativity does not soley depend on subject.

Every subject has a zillion (or more) ways to be presented.
