How about a 45° rotate then a tighter crop

Of course that would be closer to what John has but a 45° rotate either way would be better.

Cut a hole in it and let Kidd Rock wear it as a poncho?

Upside down flag means some kind of "distress". This does not offend me. However, some may look at your shot as a "political" statement and may not like it.

Although an upside down flag does not bother me, a burning one would!

That would be offensive. Using versions of the flag as clothing is not appropriate. It doesn't matter if it US, UK or USSR flag. It is a symbol of that nations independence, people, struggles and beliefs that me and women have fought for and died for. I'm not saying any one nations right to project itself on others is right, just the fact that the flag is a symbol and as such should be respected. Now leave the flags alone, lets just have a good 'ole nuke war ;)

I really like the image and from a realistic point of view the flag is a tangible part of your composition the reflections of the flag is a visual illusion, remove the water drops and the reflections go away but the flag remains. I would hate to see you rotate the flag due to the nature of the meaning, but if burning a flag is constitutional then expressing ones self by having your image rotated with the flag upside down is your prerogative.
