I am getting ready for an upcoming show featuring nothing but art of trains and related items. So thinking I might be able to add another photo or two to my area I set off this morning for a walk along the mainline with my little boy. I had gotten a few photos of a passing train and we turned down an abandoned line. I was thinking about photos of the old tracks and as I made an adjustment and got ready to take a photo of the old line I saw it! There laying right at my feet was a railroad spike! Spikes aren't all that valuable but they are sought after by collectors of different lines. Thinking oh how Kris will love this I pick it up and hand it to him without really looking at it.

As he looks at it he says "Mommy what does PRR stand for?"

I almost freaked out when he said that cause they are very sought after here loacally. I just found an old Pennsylvania Railroad Spike! Well after that find and him now knowing just what a spike looks like he decided to pick up anything resembling a spike as we walked along this old line. We came home with a total of 11 spikes, 1 bolt and 1 broken coupling. Out of the spikes we had 1 PRR spike, 1 PennCentral and 2 Conrail spikes the rest were not stamped. Just for the record every last one was laying on the ground not still in the tracks before anyone asks!

So , ever find anything interesting when out with your camera?

I come across a lot of dead animals- kind of gross. Rude people looking at me strangely because I'm taking a picture of something that they wonder why- expecially since I don't have a big SLR Zoom camera so they rule out any love of photography.

Hmmmm.I was out taking pictures of my mate on the swings, I was doing this project to get a photo that would sum up 'summer'.Anyway, these rude little three or four year olds thought I was taking a picture of them. Let's just say the language coming from their mouths educated me. My friend was amazed to.She's never been spat on before.I say we campaign to end the stigma against photos and photography...why do people react so violently when cameras are brought out???Phew. Rant over.

People aren't the only ones that react violently...

These are one of my 'pet' hates - just glad there are none around in this country. Saw a documentary about them - scary...

When I was doing the "Liquid" challenge, I was photographing milkweed sap, when I discovered a bullsnake eating a meadowlarks eggs, so I have photos of the snake eating eggs and sap from the milkweed. I did have to move some grass around the nest to see the snakes head and move the snakes body a bit though to get it in the frame. But was a nice surprise. Van

I would have passed out. I am definitely petrified of snakes.

I've seen a ton of railroad spikes, but I never picked them up, never thought that they would be wanted by people, I have tried taking pictures of them, but havn't ever got a good one.

I came across two people doing the humpty dance in an old grist mill at a waterfall I have photographed in the past. They weren't too excited to see me with my camera in hand.

With a name like Gordon McGregor, I'm sure you know all about Irn Bru.

But it's best not to disparage God's own country. I might just go over there and bash you in. :)

Here's a joke? concerning Scotland.

St. Peter and God are visiting Scotland. St. Peter remarks favourably on the beautiful mountains, valleys (glens), rivers (burns) and the sweetness of the air. St. Peter questions God on His recreating of Heaven in just one country. God replies, 'I know, but to balance, just look at who I've given them as neighbours'.

Kostia,

I placed two shots of the bullsnake in my portfolio. Take a look at them. Van
