Yeah, I just went from 5.3333 to 4.5000 in one vote. Um, ouch? But hey, my Perspective shot started out around 5.2 and ended up at 6.0000...

i get "stats are currently unavailable for this challeng"; how are you guys seeing scores already; clear cache & reload a bunch?

You ahve to be a member to see the scores. Otherwise, they will be updated at ten past

In an effort to maintain my sanity and not view the voters too harshly for expressing their honest opinions on my submission... I have opted to turn OFF the Update button.

Now, instead of sitting around mindlessly wondering aloud... "What are they thinking" I can use the time to hopefully upgrade what little skills I have.

Works for me.

My photo dropped from 4.0000 to 3.60000, but has now rebounded to 4.5833, after a whopping 12 votes. I hope it'll get better, but I'm fearing another dip in the forecast.

Thanks Jenn. It's like Ansel Adams finds the next challenge is "Contrasty Landscape" and then goes and enters a shot he thinks is pretty good, and then the first 15 voters spit on it. Perhaps I set myself up a bit, but I feel that water is my forte. It's not my lowest score...it's my 5th lowest score (at the moment).

Maybe the morning will bring some relief. But when you are hoping to hit a home run, a single no longer feels very good.

I just dropped from a 5.73 to a 5.59 in one vote!! They gave me a 2! That's just mean. There is no way this shot deserves a 2.

this is getting so fristrating I thinkl I may retire from DPC real soon.

Last post I had 20 votes and a score of 5.7000

Now I have 27 votes and have plunged to a 5.1852

I really do not think my entry should be getting slammed like this, but it has become the norm on this site. If you're going to vote someone's image as less than average I truly feel you should have to explain why you feel that way. And not with because "I dont like it" Come on voters - get some nerve around her and explain your low votes.

ShutterPug, first day voting is the day when people are sorting through the entries and will most likely come back and revise the scores. No need to get upset on day one.

I use the sorting method of voting.
First run through I use 4,5 and 6 to group the wheat from the chaff, very occasionally I might put in a 7 to indicate to me that this will be a top 10 candidate.

Second run through is done on the thmbnail page and I choose 1 or 2 10's, half a dozen 9's, 20-30 8's.

The third run lets me sort out the good but not greats into 7's and what remains in 6.

5's sometimes don't get a review I have to admit, but these are usually pretty mediocre, flat light, uninteresting or off the topic.

The ones which I originally scored as 4 get a quick run to pick out the disasters for comment and downgrading.

So - don't read too much into day one. You probably got a 5 or a 6 from me and if its any good at all it will be upgraded later in the week.
