Well, the past two months I have noticed the scores getting worse and worse. The first day, the middle days, the last day - doesnt seem to matter. Everytime I check the score goes lower. Now I'm barely at a 5.0

Another photo I liked doing poorly. I'm beginning to think this whole challenge idea is not really worth it. I think I'm getting hurt more by narrow minds punishing a shot for thinking out of the box and avoiding the obvious shot rather than critiquing the photo itself. Please remember, the definition of a beach for this challenge is quite broad. |
I just got my first 6+ in perspective III (hooray hooray). I deliberately set out to fulfil what I see/saw as dpc criteria to get a high vote (simple, clear, sharp, unconfusing and unambiguously relevant to the name of the challenge). It's satisfying, of course, but I think there's a bit of discipline involved in that as well - it's not just selling out.
For this one I took some shots, decided on one, went back and took a few more of the same subject, etc.etc. It's settled nicely under 5, but it's still the same shot and I don't like it any less.
I can't lay my trip on you (man), but I can't lay it on the voting masses either. Why would I? FWIW, the 'problem' with mine is pretty much the same as yours - not a lot of bikinis and surf boards on my 'beach', heh. I guess the difference is that the narrow minds don't hurt. Watch out for the big fat ugly ones...

You are not allowed to leave!! You photography and contributions to DPC are too good for that. I took a short break last month when I was frustrated and came back strong (for me at least). Of course, now that I say that, I may lose my run of really good scores with this challenge. But I'm having more fun and don't take it as seriously.

Nothing surprises me anymore. My Perspective score started off around 5.2 and ended up scoring at 6.0000. So who knows... personally I think this is a 5.6/5.7 image.

Nowhere to go but up which is what I have been doing. :) Still don't think people get it but just one comment that does would be so entirely worth it. :) |

Well my horizon is straight, my subject matches the challenge, rules of thirds are followed, and the post processing doesnt suck, but I'm in the high 4's can you 'splain that one Ricky! :D

This is my best start ever.
In Perspective III I started out 3.7 and over the last 2 days finished 5.19 - Stange voting pattern in that one 1's and 10s!
Anyway, if this holds up, I will be very happy!

That funny you mention the horizon. I suggested to my stepdaughter that she level the horizon. She liked it tilted, but then decided to change it when I said that she would probably get voted down for it. |

Great start Jim! If you're like me, those higher scores tend to be more stressful than the lower ones... |

There are skewed horizons and there are (sez me) a tad too many entries that are really sort of seascapes, without living right up to the spirit of the 'found thing'...
Having said that, there are a lot of very very good, quality - like, with da feeling - pictures there. I think I just ran through about forty, but it's a pleasure.
Insert standard smiling thing.

This essentially is sentence parsing, which I hate to do, but please keep in mind that the challenge description doesn't specify that you must shoot the "found" subject in the state in which you found it. Nothing is stopping anyone from posing the subject after it has been found, eh? It's not a candid challenge. That's a bit off your seascape comment, but not unrelated.

Sorry for my outburst last night. My scores have recovered to where they are merely disappointing instead of foaming-at-the-mouth-low.
I'll make sure to double my visits to the therapist in the near future.
