These sound very interesting! I think I may be tempted to enter my second challenge! If I can come up with the right shot!

Damn... my Stationery entry:

would have been perfect for Black & White in Color...

I wonder if I still have that Word document...

I like your Stantionery entry - I can't believe the amount of negative comments you got on it!

But I am still at a loss as to why the need for Advanced rules in Open challenges. I think both of these could have been done in Basic.

Here's the thread: Colour on Colour/B&W in Colour

First time I've had a suggestion used in the challenges....and they used 2 of them, cool!

I think it may be a first that Canadians have suggested all the challenges available.

Will it be a dqable offense to do any desaturation on your picture? My subject and background are black and white but after I take the shot there are some small bits of light color on certain parts of my subject that I would like to desat just to clean it up. Legal or not?

I'd say no. Desat is a form of conversion to b/w.

I am not talking about desat the whole picture just a touch up on a couple of spots. I should probably just submit my pic to SC for an answer.

That's the best bet.

My opinion: "Also note that shooting in or post-processing to black/white will result in DQ" - spot touch up desat in PP is a b/w conversion.

From the challenge description: "...Conversion/desaturation to black and white or shooting in black and white is NOT allowed.... Also note that shooting in or post-processing to black/white will result in DQ."

Seems pretty clear that desat in post will result in DQ.

If it's just a little area, perhaps cloning or blending would work better instead?

Havent gotten a reply on my question yet from SC but I believe I figured out a way to get close to my desired results without doing any desat or anything that would be questionable. Tough challenge for sure.

i believe i have an excelent idea .. / might have to buy some props though ;) ...

hummm, ok .... so if the main subject is indeed B&W and there are other things i.e. blue sky in the background I believe it is ok? My guess is DPC voters will down vote any pic that has any color (colour for the blokes) other than the B&W subject. What do ya think?

Haven't got a firm idea yet but I think I'll try to have at least a hint of color in mine to make it clear to the voters that it wasn't shot in B&W.

This question goes for B&W (or any other future challenge)...is it permitted to take a picture of another b&w picture that is made part of the scene?

Thanks,
Josh

Not sure if anybody covered this yet... But what if your camera was in black and white mode? This wouldn't violate the rules, per se, but it doesn't seem like it would be in the spirit of the challenge. Any thoughts?

The extra rules say "Also note that shooting in or post-processing to black/white will result in DQ."

Actually the rules say you will be DQ'ed if you shoot in B&W mode on your camera.

Also note that shooting in or post-processing to black/white will result in DQ
