If you could only use 2 lenses to shoot a wedding, which ones would they be ? Say, an indoor ceremony.

wide f/2.8 zoom (Nikon 17-55 / Canon equivalent)
long f/2.8 zoom (Nikon 70-200 / Canon equivalent)
throw in a flash, some batteries, memory cards & skill* and that'd be all I'd need.

I only own two lenses... :-(
But if I robbed a bank (if) I would get a 12-24mm and a Macro lens good for portraiture (60mm or 105mm VR, can't decide).
I could care less about heavy zoom, I'm never that far away from things and when I am I don't have a tripod or the patience.

I wouldn't use two lenses.
I'd only use one:
Nikon AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED |

I second this!!!
However, of the lenses that you have in your profile I would use your: 50 and 135 mm, you should be able to move around so you will not need the zoom as much as the opening due to the lower light conditions indoor. However if you rob a bank I still recommend the above lenses.

That would be a good choice if you could only have one lens.
By the way...The 70-200mm lens is not just for long zooming for sports or wildlife like many people might think. It is one of the best portrait lens lengths you can get.
Check out Joe McNally's site. He is a world reknown photographer and a lot of his best portraits are done with a 70-200mm. And with flash you don't need to worry about camera shake.

The 70-200 would have been my second choice and the 17-35 my close third. I just wouldn't be changing lenses during the ceremony, so I'd just pick one. I'd pick one that would work in poor lighting conditions and be able to zoom from a close-up portrait to a crowd. Now,... the before and after ceremony shots I would probably have time to get creative in all kinds of ways. That may take a few lens changes.
(Oh, and thanks for the nice comment thegrandwazoo) |
