I'm hoping that someone can help me with this one. Recently my images have been opening up very dark in Photoshop. They appear fine when opened with the Windows picture viewer. I haven̢۪t changed any setting that I know of. I've even tried to re reset all of Photoshop̢۪s setting ( ctrl, alt, shift, when Photoshop is loading). Anyone know what is going on and how I can fix it?

Under View menu make sure 'Proof Colors' is not checked.

Also, convert to sRGB when saving unless you have a specific reason not to -- Image/Mode/Assign Profile... and Image/Mode/Convert to Profile...

The images look like that straight out of the camera and I haven̢۪t had this problem before so I don't think that it has anything to do with the saving of the image. I check the 'Proof Colors'. It wasn't checked but checking it seems to fix the color. I never had to do that before and I have to check it with every image I open, so I̢۪m still lost.

I looks like by your example one is open with PS and the other with Windows Picture and fax viewer. Depending how you have PS set up to display they will be different. Windows I believe is displaying as a RGB and PS may be set to Adobe or other combination.

So how would I go about fixing it? I've been playing around with the 'color settings' options under the edit menu, nothing seems to help, unless I tell photoshop not to manage colors. I'm gettting close to uninstalling and starting over.
